Hello! Just joined. I’m 62. In August 2021 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. In November I had it removed.

Upside: no incontinence, zero cancer margins to date, all for which I am very grateful.

Downside: lost my 7” cock, my jizz, my sex life. Peyronie’s disease has set in and there is a bend - but I only see the bend in the VED tube, any erection totally lost once out of the tube. I tried shots, but the building plaque has made it too painful, plus I have an essential tremor and the possibility of sticking a needle in my dick correctly is about zero!

I got to FT through a Facebook prostate cancer group - I am so glad! Reading these posts - before I could register - made me so hopeful! Now I can take you guys up on all your offers to speak from your experience!

I’m active duty military and just got back from being stationed overseas. Medical was limited. I am now in the D.C. area and have first appointment with urologist next week. I think I am going to walk in saying, “Implant, please!”

Welcome to the forum AT1961 and thanks for serving.

I got my implant after discharge and before prostate cancer. The Veteran's Administration has been very good to me. If you can widen your choices of implant surgeons outside the military establishment, keep this in mind: The experience and judgement of your surgeon is VITALLY important to a good outcome. So a surgeon who has done a lot of implants is important. You also want to have confidence in his/her dedication to his/her craft and to your welfare. I searched for 14 months to find a surgeon I trusted. I contacted the two "superstar" surgeons mentioned frequently on FT, two local surgeons and one in the Washington State VA in Seattle when another surgeon almost literally "fell into my lap". A surgeon who was expert enough to have taught the procedure was recently assigned to the local base hospital. We immediately hit it off and I scheduled surgery as soon as I could.

About my finding a surgeon. I had difficulty at first (not unlike trying to find a partner or to have sex with a limp dick). Blind alleys and obstructions everywhere. Still, I pressed on. I got my "ducks in a row". I enrolled in the Maryland VA. A travel nurse at first was almost obstructive told me that the Maryland VA would not do it, would not provide housing for recovery, etc. I worked around those negativities talking to clerks and nurses and arranged things. Everything but the air fare. Then, that (obstructive) nurse called me up out of the blue and told me of Dr Shaw and asked if I would be willing to consider him? "Hell, YEAH!" was my response, but what I said on the phone was, "Why, yes, I would meet with him, thank you."

Every person I talked to, I took notes, tried to remember their names, thank them by name at the end of the phone calls or visits and call them by name the next time we spoke. People love to be remembered. I thanked them even if they were no help. They at least gave you their time. This travel nurse responded to my attitude, I think, and my need and reached out when she had no expectation for reward for doing so. I got off-base housing while a single Staff Sergeant (USAF) by being polite and getting my ducks in a row, not just the ducks behind me but the ducks before me, too.

What urologist are you seeing in the DC area for your implant? I am also active duty military in the DC area.

Very cool thank you! I also booked my first uro/implant appointment at Walter Reed urology recently but they gave me some young Captain... Might see what availability Dr Hawksworth has, I have heard better things about her
