Revision: AMS LGX to CX (Dr Loh-Doyle, USC)

Just spoke to Dr Loh-Doyle as I'm moments away from surgery. Plan is to switch me from the LGX to the CX with larger cylinders and fewer RTE's. Not looking forward to going through recovery again, but totally looking forward to using this new one.

The staff here is once again great, and Dr Loh-Doyle is just a really cool guy in general. He talked a bit about seeing the new electronic implant and what the device looks like, as well as what parts of it are still being worked on. Also informed me that Coloplast is releasing new cylinders soon that are modeled after AMS's so as to rectify the dog-ear issue that they're known for.

No new pump today. It's been pushed back a little bit and AMS is saying January.

Developed a massive scrotal hematoma after surgery and experienced a noticeable dip in blood pressure along with sweating, so Dr Loh-Doyle had me go back in the OR and they put me under again to drain it. It was fine until I went to sleep and woke up again, because now the hematoma is back and bigger than before. My squeeze ball that collects all the blood drainage has filled like 6 or 7 times already. Wasn't expecting this complication, but goes to show you gotta be prepared for anything to happen with any surgery.

best wishes man, everything is great until it isn't. I hope things get straightened out and you're on the mend sooner rather than later. Surgery is surgery, it must be comforting you're at a world class facility with a very talented doctor.

My third surgery took place at 3:30pm today. Dr. Loh-Doyle traveled 2.5 hrs thru traffic from another hospital he does surgeries at to come do it.
Additionally, he called Dr Boyd who came to assist in the OT. I don't know the specifics of everything done during hematoma removal, but the first one was apparently a medical emergency yesterday, and this second one was just as necessary. There wasn't one specific place i was bleeding from, but I'll have to ask for an explanation of the surgery later. I lost so much blood that I needed a transfusion twice and apparently received 4u of blood in total.

I've been hooked to an IV and using a catheter, and will be here at least until Saturday night, not allowed to walk at all. I'll also apparently be opened up and cleaned out again before I'm instructed to start pumping.

I guess this is just a stroke of bad luck that I've been having in 2023. Dr Boyd said a hematoma after revision is incredibly rare, and Dr Loh-Doyle said he has never had it happen in his practice until me.

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm excited for this new pump too, just haven't even had the opportunity to ask for the details of the size, RTEs, resovoir, etc due to this setback. It is fortunate that the surgical team and staff are so great though. I'd have been way more nervous if I were somewhere else.

Blankloads69, thats some major swelling. Not to alarm you but I don't know of anyone that has had even close to that amount of blood in recent memory.
My daughter in law had 2 valves replaced in her heart back in 91. Her surgeon & her family weren't big on blood transfusions. The dr used some elaborate equipment that sucked up the blood & lymphatic fluids. Ran it thru a filter & right back into her. I visited her in the ICU as she was coming around. Her last unit just had a pink tint to it.
I think once you've recovered that you're going to have a lot to tell.

So far I've had two blood transfusions and 3 surgeries, including visits with blood specialists called in by Dr Loh-Doyle and Dr Boyd. I've got a tube connected to me that's collecting any blood drainage that takes place over night and just got clearance to remove the Foley catheter. I'm cleared to start walking on my own for the first time today.

For some reason, my spermatic cord was just hemmorhaging and it's still not clear why. Despite this complication, I'm glad to have Dr Loh-Doyle and his team looking out for me. They responded to the issue with immediate concern and are doing all they can to get me ship shape.

Wow, I just read this, and I'm sorry to hear you're having such a hard time.
