OK, first I guess you need to make sure that thing works. Lube up an area of your belly and try the pump there. Does it start producing a vacuum there and pulling a bulge of skin? If you're not very hairy there you shouldn't even need lube.
OK, if it seems to be functioning go back to your dick. Lets lose the shield for now. Shorten the forest enough around the base of your dick. You don't need to shave but it should be pretty short. You don't need to mess with your whole bush, just where the pump tube seats. Of course it may look a bit strange if you don't do a general trimming while your at it. Next lube the base of your dick where the tube should seal, but you really need to lube your whole dick. At least I need to. Otherwise as the pump pulls vacuum and your dick starts to grow it will tend to drag along the inside of the pump tube causing pain or even tearing your skin.
Good luck.

Let me clarify the rings.
There are constriction rings that are placed on the pump, which are snapped into position at the base of the penis shaft while still under vacuum, when the erection is achieved. The vacuum can then be released, and the VED removed.
There is a shield that comes with many VED's that fit on the open end of the VED that provide a softer more comfortable seal. I personally use a universal clear silicone shield, that kind of looks like a donut that I purchased from ebay (very inexpensive.)
Lastly there is a thin flat rubber shield that can be purchased from Vitality Medical that can be used to provide a good seal between the VED and your groin.
Hope this helps you with your VED and your erections.

Re: New to the pump.
1. As bldoink suggested do this FIRST!
2. If you can create a vacuum on your belly, then try to pump without using the shield/ring. (I was never successful using the body shield enclosed with the Encore.)
3. Even though I could pump successfully without a trim, I found "mowing the lawn" made pumping much easier. This is what I use.

Re: New to the pump.
Hey there.
I use a SOMA pump. The first VED that I bought, a VACURECT, did not work. It would not create negative pressure. The SOMA gets the job done. If you have not already, go on YouTube and search vacuum erection devices, to make sure you are using your device correctly. If you still have no results, get a different device.

whaleman,
If you cannot get some vacuum / suction on your belly or a place on you leg (shave a small clearing there if needed) contact the seller and ask for a replacement. If the seller took your insurance they should be able to replace a product that doesn't suck. Pun intended...

Re: New to the pump.
Hi Whaleman, I’m new to the pump too. I got my Encore VED and tried it yesterday. The advice George gave about using lots of lube really helped. If you are not feeling suction in a couple seconds, you probably don’t have a good seal. I found that I had to apply more pressure against my pelvis. Once the air stopped leaking, it didn’t take long for me to feel the suction and something to start to happen. My device has both the electric and manual pump. I couldn’t get the electric pump to do anything. Keep in mind it’s was my first attempt.
Erroring on the side of caution, I did not push it to see how hard it would get, but I got my first fullness since surgery. (10 weeks). It would not have been hard enough for penetration, but it was enough for some self pleasure, which felt great.
Good luck. Don’t give up. Keep asking the experts on this site. What a blessing it is to be able to to discuss these things with guys who have lived it. Thanks to all that contribute!

Re: New to the pump.
Word of caution, do not go over 5" (hg) of vacuum. Rule of thumb for beginners is
5 x 5 x 3, 5 minutes pumped, 5 minutes off, 3 sets. Check out Thunder's Place for more pumping routines and info as you progress. Pumping at 3 - 5 hg will help you maintain your size, and erection quality, pumping at higher hg's and times will only cause edema and damage to blood vessels and tissue. Doing it slow and correct will give you all the benefits, without any of the negatives.

Re: New to the pump.
Wow! This is concerning. After all of my research (maybe a couple hours or so) I decided on the Encore Deluxe, which does not include a pressure gauge. Should I try to return it (got it on Amazon and they probably would take it back) and try to get one with a pressure gauge as I was not aware that I could do myself harm by over pumping? I had been using Cialis with no results and was anxious to make something happen.

Re: New to the pump.
R.J., I looked up the pump you got, yes I would return it since I don't see any way of hooking up a gauge to it. You can order a pump with a gauge, or get a cheaper one without a gauge and then purchase a brake bleeder kit ($25 at Amazon or Harbor Freight) that comes with a gauge that you attach to your pump.
Again, please check out "Thunder's Place" for beginners info on pumping, equipment, and safety. There's a wealth of informative articles there, especially ones that tell you what size pump cylinder you should order based on your erect length and girth. You don't want to just order any old size, it may be too big, or too small for you. Also if you do use constriction bands to help you maintain an erection for PIV sex, never leave it on for longer than 30 minutes. Myself I wouldn't go over 20, your penis will probably be starting to get cold and blue by then not having fresh blood being circulated through it. Pumping should be something you do to improve erection quality, and help with maintaining size and overall penile health. Read and become informed!
Any more questions I can answer feel free to PM me, I am from central Pa. area too. Good luck!

Re: New to the pump.
A gauge could be handy, but I've never had a gauge on my pump. I think the rule is you can pump until you feel discomfort and then just a little more. If you do, release pressure and start again.
If you're reasonable and stop at discomfort you'll not have any issues.Osbon Erecaid Esteem User Guide Pg. 15 wrote:If you have any discomfort, stop pumping and press the vacuum release button. Then begin pumping again. https://www.reachmedical.com/content/os ... manual.pdf
