High volume Surgeon ?????

Postby Bigdog4all » Sun Jan 28, 2024 10:46 am

I have been reading on "Only use a high volume surgeon". How can one verify if a surgeon is a High Volume Surgeon? Yes, they may answer YES. If a surgeon does 100 or so PTs a year, how can that be verified? Is there a Google question? I don't think the doctor will share his surgery list, due to regulations. Any ideas? Just being cautious.

After asking the dr, you could call the implant maker they use and verify information. Im a manufacturer's rep in construction materials industry and I get these calls from time to time. While Ill never call out Bs claims I will typically direct the consumer to someone I trust.

That said, if you spend time searching this forum you will find bout 6 doctors that regularly come up as top notch. Id start by searching forums here for a doctor with a strong reputation and that comes up on searches that apply to your specific issue. I am very happy with the surgeon that performed my surgery. I had PD on top of ED and chose him in part because of postings here that praised his work and demeanor. The fact he is relatively geographically close to me was a bonus.

Several things that I would like to post. First the definition of high volume. 100 or 200 a year is not needed for this. In fact a study of a large group of men that had IPP surgery had the top group of doctors at greater than 31 surgeries a year. https://www.garber-online.com/pdf/Highe ... ctions.pdf A doctor that does 2 a month I would not exclude. One that does 2 a year I would.

Health Grades used to track number of surgeries a year and compare to other doctors. It is called Experience Check. I did check one well known doctor and the results were Very High and more than 95% of pears. That would be one of the big name doctors that specializes in implants.

Start local and look for a doctor close to you. After care is a big plus with this and don't give it up unless all your local doctors only do 1-2 cases a year as mine do. Put the doctors names in the search on this site. And you can do web search to see how the doctor is rated for general uro care.

I would also ask to speak to a man the doctor had implanted.
Injections failed. Implanted 3-21-18 AMS 700 LGX 21 + 1 RTE 100 cc reservoir 6.5" L 5" G Dr. Kramer.

Newbie443 has a good lead. But I feel that there is a group of drs that do a higher percentage of implant in their practice. Maybe even only implants.
My dr does the full range of urology work. He also does work for the local veterans hospital. So by keeping a full range practice there is a limit to how many implants get done. He operates on Mondays. If a Monday is a holiday then no implants are scheduled. In talking with his nurse, a typical Monday can be anywhere from one up to four implants. Occasionally none.
If you are able to find out who or where the dr trained, that is a big help. Having a few positive mentions on FT is a big help also.
I have advised before to use the nearest large city as a search word using the search function on FT. See if any drs show up. Keep using the next closest big city until you fine some FT referrals.

I wanted Perito to do mine because I wanted IP install, I wanted a Titan also and I liked his volume. I couldn’t afford the trip as I live in Arkansas. So I researched and found a Dr that was trained on him that practices in Dallas and does 150-175 a year and on his credentials on his website he showed he was instructed and learned his trade with Dr Perito methods. I did a 5 hour drive ea way to use this Dr. made one pre visit, the surgery visit, and the two week stitches removal and activation, so 3 trips to Dallas. Great results easy recovery. All was good then I got a letter about a year after my surgery that he had stopped practicing medicine all together. Never found out why. So do your research and find a Dr that fits your needs and your ideas on how you want to be implanted that has a reasonable amount of implant knowledge. As for me I’ll either fly or drive to Houston for my revision whenever it is needed.

Wierschem is still a practicing MD in Dallas. Maybe he doesn't do implants anymore.

I called the world renown Dr Perito office this past week and found out yes, I can get an appointment. They also advised me all patients now have to agree to a "concierge charge" of $5,000 that covers followup visits etc. in addtion to whatever Insurance pays. So, I decided to pass. Have several others in the S Florida area that offer PIP.

I had my consultation with Dr Levine in Chicago, I did not ask but he volunteered the fact he has done over 4k Implants,
that put me at ease.
Many years on Viagra until it didnt help,I moved onto Trimix 5 years ago and it now has limited effect.Time to move on to The Implant.

Wow. That’s a bit mercenary, but i guess he is both doctor and businessman. He was $31K out of pocket. This “concierge charge” brings out of pocket to 36K.

I went with Dr. Clavell for $21K and couldn’t be happier.

His quote to me during the consultation and discussion of money was “i try to keep the cost down for you guys”.

Coloplast has a database of ED doctors.

Look for facilities or doctors with a Center of Excellence designation.

This indicates that the doctor(s) is a leader in the field of men's sexual health, based on criteria such as number of procedures performed, contributions to research in the field of ED, and leadership in professional associations for urological doctors.

My doctor has this designation from Coloplast. When I asked him at my pre-surgery appointment, he said he does 5 to 9 procedures per month.

I assume AMS and other implant manufacturers have similar databases.
