How is Trimix strength measured?
I'm concerned my prescription isn't strong enough as I'm using 50 units and it's not adequate.
Would like to be able to talk intelligently with my doctor. - Mike
Trimix strength?
Re: Trimix strength?
Tri-mix is composed of
PGE (Prostiglandine?)..... that's Alprostadil
Papaverine
Phentolomine.
It seems that different pharmacies have different mixtures/proportions.
Mine is 20 / 15 / 1 (all mcg/ml). I have seen other guys who proportions are quite different.
I started injecting Alprostadil alone (Caverject) which caused a significant ache in my penis...and did not work fantastically. I switched to Trimix a few injections ago. I had to work my way up to an amount that I was happy with....60 units. The erection is much better and the ache is less. I have recently gotten a refill where they've added lidocaine to lessen the pain...We'll see! What are the proportions in your Trimix?

By the amount of active ingredients per amount of saline or bacteriostatic water. Most commonly the strength is listed as per 1ml of mix. But sometimes it's written as active ingredients per amount of mix per vial. In such cases the amount of listed active ingredients in a 5ml vial will be 5 times as much as it would be if listed as per 1ml. So you need to figure out if yours is written as per 1ml or as per volume of the vial.
The alprostadil (PGE1) is usually written in micrograms (mcg or ug) because by weight it's much more potent than the other ingredients. Although occasionally the PGE1 is written in miligrams (mg) like the other ingredients.
If you're using 50 units I'll suggest a stronger mix. Do you know what strength your mix is? It should say on the bottle or vial.

Re: Trimix strength?
Most advice states if 50 not effective go to a stronger mix. I have seen some suggest you can inject up to 100 before increasing the strength. What are the pros and cons if the latter approach?
Re: Trimix strength?
Here is what my label says:. "
"TRIMIX Standard 002 (PG/PAPA/PT)
10MCG/30mg/1mg/ml injectable"

I'm not a medical professional of any kind. Anything I post is based on my own experiences at best and delusions and/or hallucinations at worst. Internet forum advice is often worth what you pay for it, or worse. Always ask your doctor and follow his/her advice.
I would call that a medium weak mix with only 10mcg of alprostadil.
A fair number but minority of guys get ache/pain from alprostadil (PGE1). Because of that (IMHO) many doctors don't like to write for a mix with much of it. I think they do it just to cut down on their work load. They just don't want to have to mess with that issue. Some guys that do get the alprostadil ache find that with continued use the ache moderates or goes away entirely. I'm one of those guys. Some guys never get the ache. If you aren't one of the guys that just can't tolerate it you may want to up the alprostadil content a good bit. I do a straight alprostadil mono-mix at 80mcg/ml. Obviously you don't want to go anywhere near that high.
If you don't already do it try adding novelty/sex shop cock rings to your mix. Many guys find that it gives their injection a good boost. Expect to have to experiment to find the rings that you like and work best for you. Expect rejects too. Good luck.

This is the best explanation I've found. The pharmacy that produced it only does veterinary compounding now, so there's that. It's in PDF format: http://www.wedgewoodpharmacy.com/uploads/ED%20Switching%20Guide.pdf
