I was first prescribed the following Trimix - Prostaglandin...6ug, Papaverine...18mg, Phentolamine...0.6mg. It got me a decent erection but not quite hard enough for penetration. I was pleased it worked but called my doctor to see what was going on.
I described my results as he asked a lot of questions.
He called in the following medication: Prostaglandin...20ug, Papaverine...15mg, Phentolamine...0.5mg. It works only slightly better but just doesn't get me the erection I was hoping for, and is optimum for sex. It keeps me harder longer but...
I have tried putting on a constriction ring with not any better results. I tried taking a bit of Viagra prior to and it seemed to help a little but I read not to do this. I believe I have mastered the art of the injection as I get "some" result every time, just not what I need.
My questions are:
1. Should I keep trying the 2nd medication or call my doctor and ask for a stronger medication? It obviously works but just not good enough. Any thoughts are appreciated. I go to a very prominent doctor/clinic but I just think the real world experience from you guys is invaluable.
I am not so naive to think, at 57 years old, and a type 2 diabetic under great control, that I am going to get an erection like I was 20 years old. One can hope though!!
Dosage Question
Re: Dosage Question
JG..
Sounds like your Doc was trying NOT to make the new formula too too much stronger than your original one -- mostly just upping the PGE-1.
But a more normal (but strong) formula would have been 20mcg PGE-1, 30mg Pap and 1 mg Phent.
So you are saying the two versions so far have not gotten you to penetration hardness yet but whatever hard you do have is lasting for how long? Details please on % erection and how many hours...
Well, that might mean you got all you are going to get as far as EQ level. Any increase in trimix strength may just prolong same hardness level for longer. Not always that way but often it is. It may mean you do not have sufficient blood flow, or you have some venous leak? That's difficult to figure out too -- although the doppler blood flow test might rule some of that in or out.
Keep on trying with what you got .. and maybe ask for the stronger version next time.

Re: Dosage Question
I have a call into my doctor to discuss what is happening. With this injection medication, my penis will get reasonably hard yet not quite adequate for penetration. It stays reasonably hard in the same state for over an hour and sometimes almost two hours, which is quite frustrating. I think my thought was if the medication worked at all, upon proper dosage, it would result into a usable erection. I think I am learning that may not be the case. It may just result in as good an erection as can be had, but a longer time period. I don't need the time period, just the stronger erection. And, it may be lack of blood flow and/or veinous leak or neither.
I remain curious on the effect of tension rings and the use of Viagra, etc prior to injection. Info on both of these is sketchy on this forum and other sites. The tension ring seems to have merit - I have tried it with somewhat mixed results. I also have tried taking a small amount of Viagra about one hour prior to injection. It seemed to help but then I read it is not suggested to use in this application.
So, while I am happy the injections do work to some degree, I still seek he erection capable of allowing me to have intercourse.
