i have had success with all the needles i have used. 29, 30 and 31G. 5/16 and 1/2 but my favorite are the 31G 5/16. they seem to be the right length and gauge. i do use a VED to inject, makes it so much easier.

I've heard that a best practice is to press in fairly hard with a 5/16 inch needle but to go easy with a ½ inch needle, i.e. to use varying pressure to control the depth with each length. Would you agree?

for me, i put the needle up to the skin and then press is to feel the puncture of both layers. when i feel the second layer puncture, that is when i push the plunger. it varies from injection to injection, for me anyway.

Started with 31 gauge 5/16" sometimes would bend and wouldn't go deep enough changed to 29 gauge 1/2" two years ago no problems with bending or missing since

30. 1/2". Use VED to get it plump. Choose the spot and push the needle slowly then inject. Works just fine.

So, no pain with 29 or 30gauge needles? I got 31 gauge bcos this is what was used for the test at the clinic and I felt no pain at all but my injections are failing and I think it's because the length of the needle is short or it's bending.
Was scared to try 29 or 30

I use 1/2" long 31 guage needles. I administer the shot with an AutoInject that I set to an injection depth of 3/8. Works perfect for me.

I first plump up slightly with a VED, then I use a 30 gauge 5/16 needle. Sometimes I feel some pain, and sometimes I do not. I rarely have a failure.

If I put the tip of the needle on the skin I can already tell if it is on a nerve before even injecting.
If it is, move the needle slightly. Nerves are spaced out and in between you won’t feel pain.
