Tenacio pump lifetime claim by BSC

Just wanted to share with folks an interesting claim by Boston Scientific as I was researching the Tenacio Pump.

Take a look at the red underlined text. While it mentions that the pump is designed to last 10 years, it also specifies an expected lifespan of 1,000 cycles. If someone is cycling the pump daily for the first year alone, that would already account for 720 uses. Then, factoring in average sexual activity—let’s assume three times per week—that adds another 156 uses per year. This brings the total close to 1,000 uses within just one year, which seems surprising. It’s hard to believe the pump is designed to handle only around 1,000 uses. To last 10 years, this would average out to roughly two uses per week.

I wonder if this 1,000-use lifespan applies to both types of pumps and implants from both Coloplast and AMS.

I think that if they outlined this, it must be an improvement compared to the previous pump version? If thats the case i wonder for a many uses the old MS pump was tested

I read that a little differently. It says "uses". I take that to mean a complete pump to erection then having sex. So if my reading is correct then sex twice a week would basically get you to the 1,000 figure. I suspect that theory vs reality comes into play in this. The historically common implantee was an older man. Sometimes quite old. So sex twice a week was looking pretty good. I bet a lot died before hitting that 1,000 number.

The demographics are slowly changing as the male society is more willing to complain about erection problems at a younger age. Also prostate cancer is more survivable now. So that group is entering the market in larger numbers & wanting a love life after the cancer.

I predict these demographic changes will be the driving force behind most of the future IPP improvements. It just seems like the natural path to me.

What?! There is absolutely no way ten years corresponds to 1,000 uses, what with cycling and all. That statement alone would dissuade anyone from an IPP.

I agree with you GT. The average of twice a week gets it at around 1000 uses in ten years. Cycling once or twice a day for the first 6 months after implant isn't mentioned here. It is the surgeons' recommendation.
I guess it is like someone is shipping you an item and telling you it is going to arrive within 6 days, and you get it in 3 days. They know your reaction when you get it earlier than expected. You will be satisfied if your implant lasted 10 years, but extremely happy if it goes to 15 years.
If it breaks before the 10-year mark, you will still consider that you may have used it a lot more than what is designed for.

Tbh i wuold also like to have some clarification by the bsc, i dont understand how a serious company cuold assume that a man will use it just every 3,65 days (about 2 times a week) and then based on that assumption, claim a 10 years life expectancy. Maybe we are not getting the full picture of what they meant. Idk

I was so puzzled by this claim that I did some more digging. I found this video by Dr. Clavell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjzKRDfQ0UU. At the 2.15 min mark he states that the Titan OTR has survived 58000 inflation/deflation cycles. That sounds whole lot more reasonable than the 1000 cycles claimed by BSC. Why would BSC put out such a BS number? Beats me. Someone should ask their doc or call up BSC before getting a Tenacio pump.

To the twice a week doubters. I'm pretty sure that statistics supports the overall average being lower than you think. Perhaps even overstates it. On Reddit, there is a section called "dead bedroom". There are spouses of both genders stuck in marriages where there is either no sex or very seldom sex. Don't be quick to say "I'd leave". Religion and other factors makes that decision harder than you think. You have to average those in to how often you think YOU want sex. Remember, it takes a partner also.

I have a good friend that used to track his wifes periods & when they had sex. They had four kids. He knows for sure of the conception dates for two kids. One kid can be narrowed down to two nights but one is more likely than the other. First child was conceived before the tracking but there wasn't alot of sex happening. His religious beliefs removes divorce as an option. I feel bad for him. He's now chosen to go celibate vs living with irregular sex.

Sexual frequency is commonly lied about & is reported according to how each gender views it. There is a great scene illustrating this in a Woody Allen movie. I think its called Everything you want to know about sex. Btw, its actually a comedy. I highly reccommend the movie. It is very funny. Men lie about their sex life, dick size & they deny having ED. I went to school with a perfect example. For his sexual success rate to be what he claimed. He'd of had to of been a rapist. Come to think of him. I don't think any classmates have seen or found him for many years.

Doubters. Here you are on an ED sub so its safe to say that your dick isn't working all so well. Thus you have a lot of pent up desire. Does your partner have as much pent up desire? I quickly will agree that my wife had an exceptionally high libido. I've posted about it here so you can read it if you wish. Even for an exceptionally high libido woman. It does slow down with age. Twice a week average for couples that are in the age range of TYPICAL implantees sounds close enough to me to be a good guess at an AVERAGE. Remember, factor in those that bang less brings the over achievers average down.

Ok this is just crazy and proof that either bsc brain is rotting or probably they didnt mean what we think. Afterall maybe "Designed to maintain consistent performance for 1000 uses" doesn't imply that after that the pump is broken but just that is less performing? Idk i'm just guessing

Just my opinion. Its a simple business choice. Some businesses choose to under promise & over deliver. People are happy when something lasts a lot longer than the warranty.

Btw, Clavell might say that & it could be true. But what does Coloplast claim for its cycles? You're in essence saying Clavell is speaking for Coloplast & I highly doubt that he has that authority.
