Nerve damage and partial erections

Anyway, a couple of years ago I was in a bit of a bump with a vehicle and broke my pelvis in multiple places as it went through the tank of my motorbike. I was in a bad way for a some time but after what must’ve been a month or so I began to notice I couldn’t get a full erection anymore. It’s taken a while, but after having no luck with pills, seeing 2/3 different urologists and having various scans/tests done, the docs have concluded that I likely suffered nerve damage in the accident and the best course of action is to have an implant fitted.

There’s 2 things that I wonder if anyone else has any experience of and might be willing to discuss -

1. has anyone had an implant whilst still able to have partial erections? Did you manage to maintain that ability post op? Would having an implant be an extreme measure whilst I’m able to achieve roughly 40% of what I could before and rings help with the rest - albeit they’re uncomfortably tight after a short while so not ideal. I’m 43 at the moment so suspect I’d need at least one replacements surgery in years to come, perhaps more, and I just wonder if the reward outweighs the risk.

2.this might be a little harder to answer as most people that suffer my type of pelvic injuries don’t seem to survive, but if anyone has had their pelvic fixated, particularly across the pubis rami/symphysis with a plate/screws, have you ever had an issue with your implant rubbing against the metal work and weakening it? I’ve had opposing opinions from the urologists with one suggesting I’d have a fairly high risk of it rupturing if I had one, whist the other two have stated it’s near impossible and presents no more risk to me as it would anyone else. It’d be interesting to hear a real life account if one exists.

You mentioned "pills". Have you considered or tried injecting Trimix?

MaragDhuh - you have found the right site to get the best advice. There is no other place where you will find the support and sound information as you will here.

Question - you say you can get 40 % erect. What does that mean? I too can get chubby (nerve damage from RP) and almost erect, but I still can’t get hard enough for penetration. Can you get hard enough for penetration? Also, can you orgasm while masturbating with partial erection?

This may help with advising your course of action.

Also, like ftwabeck3533 asked, have you considered TriMix? It works great flor me.

Hi both, yeah injections were presented as an option by my urologist but I was pretty reluctant to go down that route and then still end up at this same point somewhere down the line, so urology (who didn’t think Trimix would have much affect on me anyway) have agreed the best way forward is an implant. In terms of pills, I was on daily tadalafil and sildenafil when required, but they made very little difference, if any at all, so I stopped taking them. On last thing about Trimix here in the UK, is there’s apparently random shortages nowadays so they couldn’t guarantee it’d always be available and sometimes months could pass before it’d be available. It didn’t make them any more appealing tbh.

Yeah by 40% I mean I can get just about hard enough to masturbate but not enough to penetrate my wife. If I use a cock ring and twist it so it’s doubled up and tight AF so blood can’t escape, I can have a fantastic erection for a few minutes until it’s uncomfortable, but I can’t see it being a healthy long term option. I can still orgasm thankfully, yeah. Weirdly, I probably do so faster now than I ever did before ED started.

I hear where your comming from about injections, however think about this. Implants are permanant,that do not address glans insufficiency and depending in on insurrance situation could be expensive or beyond capability. I resisted injections for several years but erections became increasingly inadiquit with pills and higher doses nearly caused throat cancer even with ppis. Injections work and can give you time to make an informed decision about an implant.Five years and counting. Just my opinion. Good luck, get informed.
