Finally a resolution

Postby JohnHC » Mon Nov 18, 2024 4:10 pm

Well I finally have a resolution for my issues with UMR. Work is going to continue to pursue a solution with UMR but will be giving me a set amount of cash to get the surgery done. Can anyone give me a close estimate of the total cost of self pay through Dr Hakky? I do believe I will be going to him, but I'm wondering if his charge is for the device as well? My device should be covered by Boston Scientific as it is a failure. I'm just trying to get an idea as to how much I have to pay total, Dr, hospital, anthesia etc, so I can keep my options open and not go over the amount work is giving me to get this fixed.

Should be a simple call to Dr Hackey to get real numbers.

I tried that once before, they wanted to setup an appointment first to assess the device. I didn't need to pay him about $500 on a office visit just to tell me that my device is broke and needs to be replaced. I'll probably have to do that anyway, but like everything I have to wait till the money hits the bank first. Just glad that this nightmare is almost over finally.

Hate to hear of bad times with implants. Anxious to hear how your revision goes with Clavel if you use him. Houston is about 6-1/2 hour drive for me and that’s who I intend on using when the day comes for a revision for me.

$6500 for surgery
$1000 for anesthesia, antibiotics, and antifungals
$15,000 for the inflatable machine (for malleable device - $8000)

This was the average quote I received from surgeons with decent volumes about 7 months ago for an outpatient, self-pay option (no big hospital involved).

I believe the rockstars, like Dr. Eid and Dr. Perito, typically charge $10,000 - $15,000 more than the above quote.

No, a FT member did a self pay with my dr about 2 months after mine. I think his was in the lower range of the $20,000 usd's. Perhaps as high as $25,000. Worth every penny he charges. That money barely buys a newish used car here. Work steady, don't smoke or drink. Eat at home. Save your money. You'll have it saved in 2-3 years if you don't have insurance. An IPP is a very good investment for your life. Even needing a revision isn't a big fear for me. My dr uses a pre assembled implant. No tubing splices. I asked his nurse about his revision rates. She said he has very few but does do revisions on other drs work regularly.

Ok this sounds about right, I searched through a lot of the older posts on here and someone said Hakky quoted them a price of around $23,000 which I hope is true. Just have to wait for the paperwork to come, sign it, and then wait for the money to be deposited before I go see Hakky.

My Dr has said he charges $3500 for his fees, about another $1500 for anesthesia, but it's the hospital that jacks up the price. Plus my device would be no cost as it's covered under the warranty and Boston Scientific has already said they will provide the replacement device under warranty. Dr Hakky is only about an hour and a half away, but I didn't go to him at first because I knew my insurance wouldn't pay his charges because of his practices name ( they don't cover cosmetic surgeries ) and his practice being named Atlanta cosmetic urology would have sent off all the bells and whistles for denial. Just glad that pretty soon I'll be able to get what I hope is a final resolution for this and hoping that this one doesn't fail for several years.

Good luck with this, John!

I believe the billing codes for claims are what truly matter to insurance companies. By the way, do you know the duration of Boston Scientific's warranty?
