Day 4/5: unexpected short trip to the ER
Before going to bed, around 1am, I started feeling a sharp pain in the stomach. Yes, the stomach, not my junk. I took a hot shower thinking this would help, but it only got worse from there. I spent the next two hours agonizing either on the floor or on my couch in uptight position, as laying down made breathing much worse.
The pain was so intense that I could barely speak and breath. I decided to call my sister who lives abroad as things didn’t improve and I seriously believed my life was a stake. From the beginning, I was under the impression that this is unrelated to the implant due to the location of the pain and the absence of typical infection symptoms (no apparent fever, no sweating or chills, no discharge from the incision site).
As the pain went on, I understood that something was definitely wrong and I decided to call an ambulance, which took over an hour to arrive… they drove me to the nearest hospital, asked me questions about my symptoms, the medication I had taken, as well as if I had had any surgery recently. So I told them avoir the penile implant, which they were clueless about, and gave them the list of all the medication I am taking (there’s quite a few, between the various painkillers, the antibiotics, the spasfon (for stomach aches)).
They quickly ruled out an infection and suggested it was a gastritis. I did eat some seafood for lunch (which I sometimes don’t tolerate well), and considering the wide range of medicine I’ve ingested/was injected in the past few days, plus the stress and sleep deprivation related to the surgery, I guess that my stomach is upset and fragile.
I am still at the hospital, they want me to stay for like an hour to make sure I’m fine. They gave me some codeine and something to soothe the stomach so I feel better already. Funnily, my stomach pain has taken center stage such that I barely feel/think about the implant.
I am relieved that this is most likely not an infection. What a journey so far!

30 years old French with ED caused by priapism episodes at the age of 15. Implanted with 21cm + 3cm RTEs AMS 700 CX MS pump on 05/12/2024 by Dr Sébastien Beley. Pills had lost most of their potency, injections worked but were painful and inconvenient.

thanks for the reply... it would be interesting to be able to contact Beley to find out if this price could also be the same for a non-French patient.
Please keep update your recovery

What a fulminant night. Understandably, you rooted the cause of that in the implant reservoir. Glad it was just a gastritis. No imagination needed that any more severe condition, potentially requiring another abdominal surgery, could have taken your journey into a whole other direction ...
I also believe that such an excruciating pain is above-average, even for gastritis.

Day 6
The stomach pain due to my gastritis is gone, now back to the previous dick and balls pain lol. One advice to those undergoing this surgery (or for that matter, any surgery requiring the use of antibiotics): take care of your diet and consume probiotics.
I may have a weaker stomach than most people but often when I use antibiotics combined with various medications, this messes up with my digestive system. So I am now on a full probiotic and prebiotic diet to not only limit the downsides of antibiotics, but also to boost my gut bacteria and immune system so as to reduce further the risk of infection. Many studies have shown that consuming probiotics (e.g. miso soup, kefir, kimchi, kombucha) and prebiotics (cocoa (100% dark chocolate), bananas, garlic, asparagus) can amplify the effects of antibiotics, if consumed 2 hours apart from antibiotics (either before or after). This should arguably further reduce infection risks. I am also following a zero refined sugar diet and will continue so for at least a few more weeks, as sugar is a known inflammatory and slow down scarring.
Other than that, I feel better, I can go for short, slow walks around the block, and swelling has come down, though it tends to pick up at night, which woke me up in pain last night. Icing helps a lot, but so do hot showers, such that I alternate between both. My ballsack and left side of my penis is still bruised but it’s getting better.
One question I have is: from what I can tell, the implant (which is completely deflated) stops just before the glans. I understand that once every is settled and cycling has started, it should reach maybe halfway through the glans. Should I worry that this is not the case now, or is this normal and the tips will expand into my glans once I start cycling? My surgeon oversized me by 0.5-1cm, so I don’t see why I should end up with floppy glans.
Thanks!

Hi friend,
I wanted to ask you how you put ice and above all how you protect your penis during hot showers?

Hi buddy, I simply put a bunch of ice cubes in a ziplock bag and apply it to my nutsack and penis through a thin towel or shirt whatever. The point is just to avoid direct contact with with the skin of my package, in part to not mess with the incision area, which is prone to infections.
As for hot showers, I had to wait for my bandage to fall off (or should I say when I decided to remove it), which was maybe 36h after having left the clinic. I don’t think it is so good to keep a bandage on your incision, so you may as well remove it and then clean it twice a day with disinfectant (Betadine, i.e. Povidone-iodine). But I don’t protect my penis during showers, I apply hot water on it and then clean it. One thing you should avoid is bathing, at least until your surgeon allowed you to.
