I am infrapubic, didn't have that grapefruit size scrotum after implant, but I had the pain on day 3 for about 3 days. Lidocaine helped me a lot, I wasn't icing but used to take warm showers.

In cab now after seeing him, he did a sonogram and looks okay…I’m just having a more difficult recovery. But I am relieved! Glad I made the trip because he’ll be away for 2 weeks.
Thank you for taking the time to give your support

Really glad to hear that. Did it turn out to be drainage from your reservoir area accumulating in your testicles?
55 years. Using bimix 0.4 units. Works well but inconsistent and very inconvenient. Seriously considering an implant.

no, it wasn’t drainage from the reservoir area. It’s just for some crazy reason my body has reacted by blowing up my testicles, with my entire penis and groin area and upper thighs, purple.
My girlfriend came with me, met the doctor for the first time. Her take— he doesn’t have much bedside manner… his nurse was very nice and did most of the work. She did a sonogram on me. And then the nurse practitioner did an exam; He also was good. The doctor himself tried to get away with spending about three minutes with me, but I had a list of questions and went through them. As he was leaving, Dr. Eid said to a woman who wasn’t introduced, an intern, I think, “ some people don’t have a lot of tolerance for pain.” I didn’t let it pass and I told him actually I do have good tolerance; I had brain surgery this past January. I also reminded him that he told me that my operation would be a “bread-and-butter” case, and that I would be having sex in 3 to 4 weeks…

Man your balls certainly didn't like getting messed around. Things will calm down as the body starts to heal itself. Again wishing you a quick recovery. I don't understand why he would say your body has low pain threshold. Every body reacts differently. I have heard great things about how attentive Eid is to his patients. It's unfortunate your experience has been less than pleasant. Based on your experience would you still recommend him?

Man, the way I was feeling I wouldn’t even recommend getting an implant! But if it all works out, I’m sure that will change. Let’s just say that so far I am very disappointed with Dr. Eid in the aftermath… i’ve known him for more than two years and started seeing him and tried injections with him so I have seen him multiple times. He has shown little empathy and given me no encouragement. His last words to me on Thursday was real problems with an implant (infection) don’t occur until end of week two into three. Then I learned he will be on vacation the next two weeks. Great….

I certainly did not get his ‘A’ game… it is now Sunday, day nine, pain is much less, just a lot of discomfort. Testicles less purple, a little less swollen, but still quite large. I have bruising in my entire groin area. Still nowhere near getting back to normal. Other than doctor visits, I have not been out since the surgery on December 13. I would not be able to even walk a block because my testicles are so swollen and they rub against me. Side effect of the pain medication has left me constipated, so I am taking the laxatives. Don’t have a great appetite, but I am forcing myself to eat.

PS Eid’s support staff have been very good. I’m going in again on Monday, tomorrow. I will be meeting with the nurse practitioner, almost relieved that Dr. Eid will not be there. Isn’t that terrible?

I'm fortunate to have a compassionate urologist who is also an excellent communicator. Like you, my initial recovery was pretty rough! But I had been well prepared for that possibility, and felt like my urologist had my back the whole time. My post-op bruising looked very similar to yours. I could barely walk for the first two weeks. And couldn't sit upright in my desk chair for even longer. Any pressure on the perineum caused intense pain. But things slowly(!) improved over the following weeks and months. I'm now nine months post-op and still noticing gradual improvements. Many implant patients say it takes about a year to feel fully 'normal' again, and I seem to be on track for the same result. There were times early in my recovery when I questioned my decision. But, today, I think it's one of the best things I've ever done for myself! Oh, and I also experienced medication related constipation the first couple weeks. Extra fiber and water (I prefer Smart Water which helps keep your electrolytes up) can help, but I ultimately needed to start taking Colace to get things properly moving again. But you will continue to feel better over time. Even after the bruising fades, there is residual internal swelling that can last a surprisingly long time. Don't rush things! You will get past the discomfort of recovery and the weird numbness and other foreign sensations will eventually begin to feel like the pleasant sensations you're hoping for. It just takes more time than most guys realize. Six months from now, I bet you'll be gratefully enjoying your fancy new bionic bits! But, for now, I hope you continue to be patient and gentle with yourself. You are not alone. And I'm sorry your doctor didn't fully prepare you for the reality of recovery. That sucks! Unfortunately, that also seems to be a common experience. Stay strong!!!
Aggressive prostate cancer (genetically predisposed) at 52. Required immediate intervention. Robot Assisted Radical Prostatectomy (RARP) in December 2021. Erectile function never returned. Penile implant (AMS-700) in March 2024. Bionic Boys Club FTW!

Your swelling is due to go down fairly dramatically anytime now. The discomfort unfortunately is going to last considerably longer, less and less as each day passes it "normalizes" for you but it does get better, My girlfriend asked me last week if i felt the ipp was worth it, i said its not fair to ask me now ask me in 6 months because right now my awnser is no. This is purely due to the pain and discomfort but i know its all temporary.

As for your aftercare while its defo not what your expecting its certainly better than mine lol, i emailed my surgeon and nurse 2 weeks ago in regards to the pump placement being bad, got nothing back, i emailed them again last week again and nothing back. i haven't seen my surgeon since before the surgery, the nurse told me she wont be giving me the appointment on how to cycle because shes off Christmas (thankfully i was well informed about it all and confident in what im doing i started cycling my self at the start of week 3) i'm now end of week 3 and going into week 4 and my reservoir pain has picked up with a bit of swelling. Which is concerning for me because i know its smack bang in the middle of the infection zone but again.. cant get hold of anyone. i did get mine through the NHS so i didnt pay a penny.. i guess im getting what I've paid for really. All i can do is monitor this my self very closely.

Thank you so much, yes, I am staying strong and today is a much better day, the best day so far. So I have some hope….

Wow, that is tough, RMJ, I’ve heard stories about the NHS being overwhelmed, but I don’t think that excuses not responding to an email. My doctor gives out his cell phone number, and he will respond to a text, and I have also phoned him two times. So in that since I am lucky. I know my doctor is a top surgeon, but as I have said, I needed more empathy. He emphasized how easy the recovery would be, which I think was a big mistake on his part. Anyway, you have been so supportive of me, please let me know if there’s anything I can do for you….

Re: Implant Journal Dr Eid, 12/13, Rough Recovery

Postby Martin25 » Sun Dec 22, 2024 11:54 am

Day 9, Progress at last!

Day 6 was probably my low point, terrible bruising all over my groin area, and testes swollen like a grapefruit. Also, that morning I was sitting trying to eat some toast for breakfast before going to the doctor’s office with my girlfriend. The next thing is I hear her voice saying, “I’m calling 911.” I had fainted, briefly…. I have high blood pressure, but now it was 73/47… she gave me two glucose pills and I started eating some saltines, and then I texted my doctor. It was probably an anxiety attack, I started taking medicine for anxiety several months ago, but I was worried that I was losing blood! I started to feel a little better, but then I gave Dr. Eid A call, and he picked up. I told him what was going on and he just said to come into the office, as planned… I wrote about that visit in an earlier post…

Day 7 spent most of the day on my back, except getting up to take warm baths as directed by my doctor. Also using a heating pad that I purchased. Surprised that I am still spotting blood from both the incision area in the tip of penis. Not sure why it’s a good idea to take a bath if the incision still occasionally leaks, but I had informed the doctor and he said that it was normal.

Day 8 (yesterday) noticed some improvement, able to walk waddle around my apartment with less pain. It’s just so much discomfort because my enlarged testicles rub against my thighs and I’m wearing special underwear to keep the penis pointed straight up. By the way, my penis points at 3 o’clock, even though it is not pumped up. I believe that they do keep some fluid in there but in the doctor’s office two days ago, the nurse assistant pressed the release valve, which hurt like hell, to release some fluid, so I am surprised it points at 3 o’clock… The appearance of my penis is not great, it’s not round anymore, kind of flat and oval, but I expect that it rounds out once it is pumped up, but of course, I have not activated yet.

Day 9 (today): I definitely feel progress, much less pain, although I am still taking painkiller, switched to high dose ibuprofen, which hopefully will cause less constipation than the Tylenol with codeine. I am still taking stool softener. Yesterday, my back was hurting a lot from the inactivity and lying down so much. I am a very active person, go for a brisk long walk every morning and have been going to a recreation center to work out three times a week. So the inactivity is making me very stiff. I mentioned this because today I feel well enough to do some light stretching standing up, and I very gently went on a yoga mat to lie on my back and do some very very gentle stretching. Testicles are much less purple, but still quite enlarged. The entire groin area looks awful, with patches of purple, but I know that is actually better because I know that means the ruising is dissipating. I still don’t know why I had so much bruising and bleeding inside, I guess everyone is different. I don’t think my incision looks very neat, as compared to all the pictures I was shown by my doctor prior to surgery. But, overall, I feel significantly better. It’s good to be able to post something positive, especially for guys thinking of having this done….
