Center of excellence rating for surgeon

Postby JohnDoe » Tue Dec 24, 2024 5:53 pm

Hello all, I noticed in another post that someone mentioned the center of excellence rating for a specific doctor or facility. On EDCure.org I've noticed only a few of the doctors have that specific rating next to their names. From what I can gather it is awarded by Boston Scientific. Does anyone know if this a marketing ploy, or legitimately respresents a doctor with superior skills regarding implant surgery? A lot of the names I've seen with this rating have not been mentioned on this site.

I would also check Coloplast Center of Excellence listings. Some surgeons are designated as COE for both, while others are COE for only one of them. Some may find that they get unbiased recommendations if their surgeon is a COE for both, but there are exceptions.

For patients who don't know where to start, this designation assures that the surgeon performs a decent volume of procedures. Minimum 25-30 implants per year. To maintain this status, surgeons must submit proof of their volume to the manufacturer and some quota of yearly ED educational webinars or presentations in professional conferences.

Of course, this COE designation or search tool might significantly contribute to their device market share. Without that there is no incentive for medical device companies to do this.

Also, someone can be a star surgeon and still not participate in this.

My personal suggestion is to go with a Top Doc who only does implants. I used Perito in FL. Fantastic results!

Both of mine were surgeons listed on COE of their specific devices. Very good both times with 2 different devices.
