how many times did you get an infection with an implant
how many times did you get an infection with an implant
Wanted to run a poll to see how common infections are. Any comments from people that got infected even with high volume Dr is appreciated. I'm guessing most people would give up after been infected twice.
Re: how many times did you get an infection with an implant
May I ask if those who’ve had an infection are also diabetic? I know the risk is higher if not well managed but it can also happen in non-diabetic patients.
What’s interesting is the stats seem similar to what you find in breast/hip/joint implants. Are we more nervous cause it’s our junk and could lose size?

They thought I had an infection 30 days after I was implanted .. cut me open from asshole to elbow ..never found any infection closed me back up.
Rigicon since 6-2023 happy to share my experience and do show and tell

Why did they assume that? Did you exhibit infection symptoms? Who was your dr?
Re: how many times did you get an infection with an implant
Had 2 week follow up all well ..3 days later cock swelled up the size of my hand .. they kept trying to treat me with antibiotics for 2 weeks in the end had me go in through the ER and did emergency surgery the next day.

I am diabetic and was for both of my surgeries. In the second surgery for the repair the doctor did culture checks of the bio film fluid of everything he disturbed. The info I read only listed a percentage of diabetic men who had large amounts of bacteria in this fluid and cited it as the reason for a higher infection rate for reoperations. All my tests show negative for bacteria for weeks after the repair. The numbers I remember are around fifty percent. A bit higher or lower but I cannot remember with was the slightly higher number. I am in the group of men that do not have bacteria in my bio film fluid. And I did not have infection either time.
As that was twice you need to increase the no infection number above by one.
Injections failed. Implanted 3-21-18 AMS 700 LGX 21 + 1 RTE 100 cc reservoir 6.5" L 5" G Dr. Kramer.

Did they figure out what caused the swelling if not for infection?

I'm interested in learning more about this if you can join chat. I assumed the biofilm can have several types of bacteria and even fungus. How were they checking for bacteria for weeks after the repair? what samples were you providing them?

Biofilm forms around all the components of the IPP as well as any other device foreign object in your body. I have staples in my ankle that are surrounded with biofilm and there is fluid inside the bio film. This film hides the object, so your body does not attack it. The fluid can have infection causing organisms. But not always. The study I read years ago were just research for men with diabetes. I had the indication that the numbers were lower for men who did not have diabetes. In my second surgery my doctor took samples of this fluid from every component he disturbed. A culture dish was made and sent to the lab. This was checked parodically for weeks and was negative for any infection causing organisms. That is none grew on the culture dish over those weeks.
You can have those infection causing organisms in your bio film and have no trouble at all. As it is sealed to hide the device it also prevents that infection causing germs from getting out. You can do a search on this and maybe even find that old report or hopefully a newer one with more current numbers. I am just going from memory so it would be best to find a medical study for accurate information.

I wonder how many times different dr irrigate during surgery.
bacteria and fungi within a biofilm are in a dormant state (and we don't know for how long), any trigger can lead to an infection years later. I wonder if disruption to the biofilm (aggressive movement of the implant) can be a trigger.
I guess that would already happen with the pump which should already be covered with biofilm and is being squeezed several times over its lifetime.
