I just wanted to raise the question of whether it's really worth flying to the USA.

On the one hand, Americans generally tend to implant much, much more than Europeans, who tend to just accept erectile dysfunction at an older age or after prostate surgery more than Americans so. This (and the lower expectations of Europeans) naturally means that there is less competition among doctors in Europe, which is not really conducive to their performance. Implants are only an "add on" to their servives, real specialists are rare. This is why I think its woth to cross the ocean....

Or am I getting this fundamentally wrong?

I won't say that you're wrong. Americans can & do tolerate high prices(to an extent). Since most of us pay for medical services through an insurance company. We see that as our money & demand certain treatments & timelines be met. Europe seems to see life differently. Btw, I have relatives in the Netherlands. Most Europeans that post here are from England. They tolerate slow & long service times on the logic its free.

I can make an appointment with my primary dr in less than a week unless he's on holiday. Walk out with a prescription, if required & get it filled the same day.

At age 65 all Americans can enroll in Medicare. There is a premium based on your retirement income. Each month you wait past 65 the monthly premiums creep up. Never to go down. Its not great but it does work. IPP's are covered subject to your yearly copay. Drugs are a seperate policy that you can buy. But by buying generics alot of money can be saved.

I think that financial motives leads to innovations. Thus implants were invented many years ago. I'm just guessing that the lack of the motive holds the adoption of IPP's back in Europe. Afterall, not many men die of ED.

There is no free health care in the UK, my implant was done on the NHS, but I have been paying in since I was 16.

Martínez Salamanca, which has been named, made my surgery. If I remember well, it costed 16k€ and the result was quite good.

The question is whether the Americans are a quantum leap better.

How do we Europeans actually deal with the risk if we have an implant surgery in the USA and something goes wrong that requires further inpatient treatment in hospital?

You can't insure yourself against something like that, can you?
