Dr. Kadee Thompson in Sacramento experiences

Postby JohnDoe » Wed Dec 18, 2024 3:10 pm

Hello, I'm brand new to this site, and relieved that I found it. I've sufferered in relative silence for close to twenty years with varying degrees of ED. I've tried pills, and they have simply stopped working for me. I've also talked to a therapist with no real benefit.

I'm 52 years old, and my anxiety and depression have caused me to avoid sexual situations all together. I finally decided to look into an implant, and was shocked and what is now available. I have become very interested in pursuing this option.

I have the opportunity to have one implanted through UCSF urology which was my first choice. I have now discovered Dr. Kadee Thompson in Sacramento. I'm curious to see if anyone is willing to share their experience with Dr. Thompson. From everything I can gather she seems absolutely amazing! Thank you.

I don't know of her. But I don't live in California either. My best advice is to really do your research on your dr. A good peronality does not guarantee a top surgery. A reasonable person could even argue that many of the top surgeons are a bit grumpy or full of themselves. A little of that might be expected & overlooked. But please remember you almost always only get ONE chance on the table. Do your best to make the most of it.

How many implants has she done? Who did she study under. I don't know your ability to travel but there is a Dr Karpman near you. Several FT member got their implants from him. I talked to him on the phone & seemed ok. But several years ago his office staff was lacking. Poor office staff can filter into the operating room. Think about insurance approval. Good luck. Its some tough choices.

Thank you for the response. I really appreciate it. I see she is a prominent urologist in the area, and has done many implants. Most likely not as many as Karpman. Of course I have the usual concerns as everyone else. Want to find the best provider who accepts my insurance. I feel there are many more skilled doctors out there that may not get the recognition they deserve. Doing my due diligence is incredibly important. Thank again for the information.

Dr Thompson is scheduled to perform my procedure February 20th, 2025. She's been my urologist for many years. We've worked our way through all of the possible solutions for ED and I finally decided to go with implants. We've discussed implants for several years now, but insurance has denied the procedure every time. Finally, I have Medicare, and it is covered. She's good and got a bit of an edge to her in the sense that she's direct and to the point, no BS. She's confident and will tell you she is good. She brags that no one in Northern California does more implants than she does. I don't know how true that is. I guess it depends on what you consider Northern California to be. She told me she will size me as accurately and safely as possible and will do all she can do to give me the best outcome possible. Her team has scheduled several follow up visits for me, including the morning after and in following days and weeks. I am highly confident she will do a great job. Internet reviews are consistently positive, and her colleagues speak highly of her surgery skills. If I recall, she provided me with a list of satisfied patients that have agreed to speak with people considering the procedure. I never felt comfortable calling any of them. We both work for Sutter Health (well I did until my recent retirement) so a lot of my feedback came from within our organization. I hope this helps.

I looked at her educational background and she doesn't appear to be fellowship trained. I'm not sure how big of an issue this might be for you but a fellowship in Urology, Prosthetic Urology, Functional and Reconstructive Urology... gives doctors, following their residencies, an additional 1-3 years in a university-based setting to practice under the tutelage of experienced MDs in their given areas. Being fellowship trained is now the expected educational preparedness for physicians and DOs in many fields of medicine.

Travis,

I am in southern OR and looking for a IPP Dr. Do you know if she does the Boston or Coloplast ?
Also; infrapubic vs. Peniscrotal ? Lastly; Does she do the surgery at the Sutter facility or Surgery center
associated with her own separate clinic.

I could go to LA or San Diego; but, I would rather stay closer to home.

Thanks

Alot of the surgeons in california will do a virtual consultation - in LA or San Diego. At least you will get more information about different techniques.

I find it hard to believe that all surgeons do 300 implants a year and are the highest volume in their region. I think there is a little ego with most surgeons, but you do need to click with your surgeon and if you've had a good relationship with current doctor, I wouldn't hesitate. On the flip side, the 1st surgery is the most important as any revision is much more challenging and risky - so you want to get it right the first time.

I'm not certain if she does both but my intuition tells me she would. I specifically asked to be implanted with the AMS LGX, and she agreed saying that is the device she prefers. I didn't ask her about the other devices. Her procedures are performed in the same Sutter building as her practice, two floors down. My understanding is that the surgical center is separate from her practice, but they do have a close working relationship. I don't recall whether she does infrapubic or peniscrotal. When we first agreed on the implants I asked her, but don't recall which she prefers. Our conversation was about a year ago (insurance kept delaying the procedure). She did explain why she chose that method with pros and cons and her preference made sense to me. Now that you've asked, and I don't recall, I should follow up with her. She is very busy so the best way to communicate with her is through her office personnel. I have found them to be very helpful. Of course, you can make an appointment with her for a consultation.
