Coverstory for work

Postby Germaican » Sun Jan 19, 2025 11:39 pm

Hey guys,

I'm wondering what you told the people at work why you had to go on sick leave, or when you were back to work, why you had to use a standing desk, could not walk well were wearing baggy pants, etc...
Not everyone needs to know my personal business, not even friends and not so close family members. I won't be able to hide that I underwent some treatment, but what would be a plausible explanation to shut them up, other than "I'm a sex cyborg now" :D

Its not their business. Period. Its a health related issue - and have your doctor write a note.

When I was asked by my employer I told them that it's a private issue I wasn't comfortable discussing with them, but I'd need time off to recover (week or so) and could provide a doctor's note - which they declined since I'd be using my PTO.

The problem with telling them something that isn't true, is if they DO find out what its for, and its not what you told them - they could get upset. Now - thats not to say they SHOULD - but people are tricky creatures - so I just go with honesty. Its none of their business.

My Doc, told me to say it was a hernia op. He advised not even telling friends, that he had heard so tough stories from patients that were forth right.
Good luck brother

People close to me knew I'd already had prostate cancer and I just told them it was surgery related to the cancer. That gave them understanding about the area in question and no one asked more than that.

Good luck

Thanks a lot. Ingunial hernia sounds plausible.
It’s more about the colleagues in the office than the company itself. The people I work with care and our team is quite close, so shutting them down by saying it’s private would be untypical. This should satisfy their curiosity :D
