My surgery in Indy, I posted to the Indy subreddit and asked if anyone would be willing to pick me up. I had this set up a few months ahead of time. Just said it was a hernia and I was from out of town. The lady was wonderful and refused payment.
My surgery in ATL, I paid one of Hakky's nurses to drive me to the hotel and to take care of me for the next 12 or so hours. She got my meds from the pharmacy as well.

My surgeon does a lot of out of town and international patients who are traveling solo. You just need to tell them that in advance and they'll arrange for someone to escort you to home/hotel.
