Do all of these favored name surgeons really do a better job than others who implant hundreds a year? My unknown doc says he does 2-5 every week.

Totally agree with old guy, I had 2 no big name surgeons do different implants and both did an excellent job, not saying these guys aren't on the top of their game, sure they are but there are quite a few doctors that are just as good and do as good or better work.

No, I don’t think they do. And I am someone who used one of the famous surgeons.

Perito did mine 2 years ago. Great guy, great dr. I live here so I didn't need the extra services. Will you be traveling with someone? If you are then stay in a hotel. If you are going alone well....I'd consider the concierge.

Dr Clavell did my penile implant last month. I came from DC to Houston for the surgery. And he ended up having to do way more than just a penile implant because during surgery he found he couldn't do the implant without first correcting my Peyronie's curvature (which I was unaware i had - no other urologist had mentioned it to me). The only out of pocket expense I had to pay was $200 to cover my Medicare deductible.

$5000 is insane. IMHO if you have too many patients, just have a longer waiting list. Charging an additional $5000 above what's covered by insurance means you're excluding guys who have to scrimp and save just to cover the surgery itself without insurance.

There was a video posted a while back of Perito performing in an OR. He was boasting about how fast he was with his surgery, and how he can jump from one OR to the next, while his assistance were doing most of the work. Looks like profits over patients to me.

There's a video on his site where he states he prefers the infrapubic incision over penoscrotal because he can do it faster. He says he can do a infrapubic in 15 minutes and the penoscrotal takes 45. For a doc like him, that's hundreds of thousands of dollars to his bottom line.

Nevermind that he can't place the pump as well from the infrapubic incision, you know, the thing you'll be interacting with EVERY TIME you want an erection. You know, the thing that causes most men to have anxiety, you know, the thing that can make you look deformed if it's not in the right place, you know, that thing. He'll tell you that it's a much better way to install the reservoir though, which it probably is.

How many guys have concerns about the reservoir as compared with guys that have issues/concerns with their pump location, adhesion, or pain?

In my opinion, Perito is in it for the bucks and swagger. I got that feeling from him just watching his videos, not the kind of doctor I was looking for.

It is my understanding (not necessarily informed or correct) that a doctor who takes insurance payments is under a contract not to charge the patient any more than what the insurance reimburses plus the agreed upon deductible or copay. If that's right, then it shouldn't be appropriate, under terms of his contract, for any doctor to accept an outside premium.

Probably exactly why it’s called a “concierge fee”, which is apparently optional.

Hi Howling8:

I had my implant done by Perito on Sept 13, 2024 so just over five months out. I live across the state of Florida from him in Miami so about four hours away. I have a buddy that is right there about a half hour away from the Perito's practice and he did not have to pay the concierge fee but he did not get the whole process done in four days like me. I wanted the BEST. I wanted a surgeon that had thousands of surgeries under his belt. And I also preferred Perito's Infrapubic method rather than the Scrotal method that most surgeon's use. I was lucky that insurance paid for my surgery so the extra $5,000 was easier to swallow. It was great experience with him. And like another guy said on here, Perito made it seem like he was just one of the boys. I never saw him wearing a white coat! Always wearing jeans, cowboy boots, and rolled up sleeves on a collared dress shirt. He has lots of personality and has a great sense of humor that makes you comfortable. I felt like he was worth it for a four day experience and not having to travel back and forth several times.

I don’t need the extras as the VA Dr Guise will follow up and Perito likes her. He recommended I get the aqua ablation doe first and then come see him 4-6 weeks later. He is a cool guy to talk to.
Thanks

My wife’s coming with. Surgery on a Wednesday fly home on Monday. Will have oxycodone just in case. My civilian urologist said he’s the best. He might cut me some slack because of my vet disabled status. I want the infrapubic because the penoscrotal took a long painful 8 months to heal..
Thanks
