Healing Journey, It is heartbreaking what you have been through, you've come to a great forum to help get you the answers that you need.
I didn't have ED like you have experienced, I sort of stumbled into getting an implant. I had went to my urologist for prostrate problems and filled out a doctor questionnaire and it had a lot of questions about sexual health. So, when they talk about a procedure to reduce the size of my benign enlarged prostrate they also talked to me about an implant and showed me some videos of men and their journeys through ED.
Pill were not working well anymore and I was wondering if I would still be able to satisfy my wife and me sexually. Even though pill worked for a good while, from my late 40's to my early 60's they were hit and miss.
I made the leap for the implant at 63 and it has been great. I don't have to worry about when to take a pill or what I ate before taking a pill, I just pump up and it is, go time :!:
I'm sorry that you are going through this at an early age, but we are all here to help you get through this with the journeys that we have taken before you.

I would definitely get an implant again, if it failed.
Keep reaching out to us with questions and guidance,
SWorks

I don't know if that is true.

I saw some research on Urochannel on Youtube that showed it works well for certain types of ED.

I also remember my first visit with Dr Levine and he mentioned shockwave, but after not getting a good rigid erection from two shots for the Doppler he was already advising the implant

Hello everyone,

First of all, I want to thank you for taking the time and patience to read my very long post and for responding. It truly means a lot to me, and your support is invaluable. I’ve decided to keep you updated whenever there are new developments, both to receive your support and to help someone in the future who might find themselves in my situation.

Some people have asked whether I have Peyronie’s disease. Honestly, I don’t know. My penis has a slight curvature to the right, but I don’t experience any pain or discomfort when erect. The only discomfort I have is due to a short frenulum and tight foreskin, but this will be resolved with circumcision. I’d like to believe that if I had Peyronie’s, my andrologist would have pointed it out—at least, I hope so.

Regarding my search for a skilled surgeon, my first choice was Gabriele Antonini. I’ve read testimonials from people who were operated on by him and had good experiences. He is also one of the few in Europe who performs a minimally invasive 15-minute procedure to implant a penile prosthesis (there’s even a video of the surgery on his website). What holds me back is that he operates in Rome. It’s not so much the five-hour drive there that worries me, but the return trip, as I don’t know what condition I’ll be in or how to handle potential complications.

That said, I feel I’m in good hands with Dr. Bettocchi. Based on my research, he leads the Andrology Unit in Foggia, is a Visiting Professor in Saudi Arabia, and collaborates with top centers in Europe and Switzerland. He has published over 200 scientific papers, served as president of the ESSM, and is a member of EAU commissions for uro-andrological guidelines. He is an internationally recognized opinion leader in the field. Additionally, he has previously worked alongside Gabriele Antonini and has been implanting prostheses for many years.

Some people have warned me about doctors who recommend shockwave therapy, suggesting that it’s often pushed simply to make more money. Initially, I also thought this was the case, but my friend (the one I mentioned earlier—over 50 years old, diabetic, and living with a penile prosthesis for two years) was advised against shockwave therapy by Dr. Bettocchi himself. Instead, he was directly recommended a prosthesis. My friend still wanted to give shockwave therapy a try, as he was scared of getting a prosthesis, but it didn’t work. So, I believe that in my case—being younger—Dr. Bettocchi genuinely hoped the treatment would help me, but unfortunately, it didn’t.

A heartfelt thank you to user Kodixx for providing a helpful link and helping me better understand the differences between types of incisions and prostheses.

As for the type of incision, I don’t have a strong preference. I want the surgeon to be comfortable and to do their best. If that means opting for a penoscrotal incision, even if it results in more swelling, bruising, and a longer recovery time, so be it—as long as there are no complications and everything goes as it should.

Regarding the type of prosthesis, I think I would prefer an AMS 700 LGX, but I don’t know which models Dr. Bettocchi implants or if there is a way to choose, as the surgery is covered by the national healthcare system. In this case, how does it work?

I also have one more question:

Do you think it is possible (and advisable) to undergo both circumcision and penile prosthesis surgery on the same day? If not, is there a preferred order in which to do these two procedures? I initially thought of having the circumcision first and then the prosthesis, but I’d love to hear your opinions before asking my doctor at my next visit.

Once again, thank you all for your invaluable support.

Wow, what a well written and easy to read post. Without breaking it into paragraph form, I would never have been able to read it.

I'm hardly qualified to give you any advice but will anyway.

I also wanted the LGX implant, but the CX I have is very good.
I wonder if the lifespan of CX is greater than LGX?

I had the penoscrotal incision and really think it was best for me. I had minimal swelling. Inserting the reservoir is probably more challenging, but everything else would seem better mostly placement of the pump and optimizing the tubing.
Getting the pre-installed cylinders to pump should also help with the lifespan of the assembly.

I would have both surgeries done at the same time if possible. You will have a lot of discomfort so maybe having both would save you overall discomfort.

You wife seems incredible and I'm sure she will enjoy you without the need to hurry up.

Good luck with all this, and I look forward to hearing your progress.

HealingJourney, I think you should probably have both the procedures done at the same time, so you don't have to go through two healing periods, in my opinion.

I had problems with my uncircumcised penis when I was younger, it was hard for me to keep my penis clean, even though I took daily baths and was conscious of cleaning under the skin that covered my penis. I would still get smegma under the skin, also the skin would get tight around my penis which would cause pain when I would have an erection.

I finally got a military doctor to do the circumcision in 1989 when I was 31. I had been married for a year and I believe that the problems I was having with my penis caused my wife to get chlamydia. It did take a little time to heal but for me it was great to be able to have sex without having to pull back the foreskin.

From what I remember from that surgery, it was sort of like my implant surgery, where they wrapped my penis up like a mummy and I just had to wait until it healed before I could have sex.

I also had a military urologist doctor do my implant here in San Antonio, Tx, who I'm sure wasn't a high volume doctor but I felt comfortable and he did an outstanding job. I've had mine for 3 years and I would do it again, if it broke.

Good Luck with your decision,
We'll be here to help with more questions

I don’t doubt that there is some research that shows some marginal improvement in some small segment of guys with ED.

But all you have to do is wander over to the shockwave section of FrankTalk and look for the posts that say it worked. They are hard to find! There are a lot of bitter dudes who feel like they were gypped. And no one I could find saying “greatest choice I ever made” like the guys here in the implant section.

But it’s great for practice profitability.

My personal experience at the Mens clinic here anything they did did not work. I think Shockwave is a ripoff. When I told their Dr that I was going for an implant he warned me to not do it. 2 years in and I couldn't be any happier. Some time after my surgery I went back to this clinic as I needed paperwork for an insurance issue and I wanted to let the Dr know how great the implant was, He was no longer working there. So while waiting for my paperwork I started talking to another guy waiting and I forewarned him about this place.I used this clinic because I was desperate and to think I came so close to signing up for another 6 month special package.

Hi Healingjourney, very sorry to hear what you are going through. And i am sure its the same many on this forum went through.

There are still many options for you to try. Personally i think shockwave will not fix your problem, but i also decided to try everything before going for the implant (just to make sure all options are exhausted, even if i didn't have hope they will work).

Regarding the implant you have many options and countries where you can do it. Rigicon Inflatables are also good besides the already established ams and coloplast.

ED about 14 years. Pills worked for 12 years, later worked 50%. Tried almost everything, nothing worked: Shockwave-Testosterone-PRP-Stem Cells-Botox, Etc

hi healing journey,

I read what you wrote and I see myself partly in your experience.

Focus on the only important thing: having a wife by your side who supports you, keep talking to her and you will see that solving things together will be easier.

I think that for you the best solution is the implant... among other things I imagine that you are Italian like me, I also contacted Antonini but I discarded it because the price was too high (30k), and now I am considering Beley in France (11k). My luck, like yours, is to have a wife who always supports me so I can calmly decide what to do in the near future.

Ciao

Andy
