How much did your implant cost?

If you could, also please put down who did your implant (if you're okay with giving out that info obviously) and hospital/implant costs. Thank you!

Andrew Kramer (U of Md Medical Center in Baltimore) did mine in 2008. Total cost (surgeon, anesthesia, device and hospital) was about $17.5K. My share after insurance was about $1100. I also highly recommend Dr. Kramer.

If I recall, my surgery was much higher than those amounts stated. My insurance covered it 100%.

Insurance also covered most of mine. I was "out of pocket" and $2,000 the first implant and about $4,000 the second.....

For those of you that had insurance pay some of it (not including Medicare), how did you get your insurance to pay for some of it? Do they file it as erectile dysfunction and it is necessary surgery or what? Basically, how do they differ it from "cosmetic" to a NEED. what information do they need

For a man who has had a radical prostatectomy, I think the insurance company looks at it similar to breast reconstruction for a woman who has had a mastectomy. It restores you to a "quality of life" similar to before the RPP. Humana approved the first procedure quickly, the second procedure quickly, cancelled approval for the second procedure the afternoon before surgery and re-approved it 4 hours later. Even though they gave me some additional "hoops" to jump through I say 'thank you Humana'.

I’m have a Traditional HMO Employer Plan with Kaiser Permanente through my employer. My cost for my upcoming implant surgery is $15 (FIFTEEN DOLLARS) for the AMS 700 ULTREX PROSTHESIS. If you include the prescription aftercare medication and perception pain reliever medication that comes to $45 (FOURTY FIVE DOLLARS).

I don't know exactly how it works, but like everything else, no doubt coverage decisions depend on the diagnostic code the doctor provides. Docs who do implants certainly know which codes to use.

My insurance provider, Kaiser, doesn’t consider implant surgery for ED a cosmetic procedure (it’s a quality of life issue). They do exhaust all other treatments before a surgery is considered a viable option for ED though. Therapy, adequate testosterone levels, vac pumps & cockrings, erection pills, and injectables must all be found to be nonviable ineffective options. Then they are fine in providing penile-implant prosthesis surgery.
