Have been looking through the posts hoping to find help. I, like many of you, have tried various remedies without success. Viagra and Cialis helped temporarly. I'm now trying Propionyl-l-Carnitine. Not much to show after a couple of weeks. DadBlair

Dadblair,
It is my understanding that Propionly-L-Carnitine is marketed as a fat-burning body building supplement. Without rendering an opinion on this compound's efficacy with weight loss or body building, I am not aware of ANY application for Erectile Dysfunction. And believe me I would take "eye of newt, toe of frog" if there were any reasonable expectation or indicaton of success.
Have you considered injections? After three years of disappointing results from Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis, I have been a satisfied Trimix user since November. As I tell others, it's worth a shot.
Here's to hard times,
Greg

Re: New Member
Greg, A clinical study on diabetic men found PLC plus Sildenafil more effective than Sildenafil alone. Though I am not diabetic,It looked worth trying and low risk. Ref: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15383186.

DadBlair,
Welcome to FT. You should fit right in amongst the brethren here. I have been using L-Carnitine for about 4 or 5 months. I originally started using it as a hopeful supplement for erection quality (EQ). In fact I was using many different supplements along with penis exercises to recover from ED and maintain EQ.
Sorry to report that none of the supplements (including L-Carnitine), did anything for my EQ. But something completely unexpected did happen from using L-Carnitine; I lost about 17 lbs total. What happened was that I got the wrong type of Carnitine. I was shopping for Acetyl-Carnitine but came home with L-Carnitine. After about 30 days I noticed that I had lost 7 lbs. Couldn’t figure it out so I decided to check the supplement labels and sure enough L-Carnitine is a fat burning metabolism supplement. Not intended to help or encourage erection quality or ED recovery. Anyway I used up the rest of all those supplements and focused on the L-Carnitine and watched the additional weight come off.
I am not on any exercise program or diet but to date I’ve lost 17 lbs. I credit it to L-Carnitine.

Dave,
Propionyl-L-Carnitine(PLC) is different than L-Carnitine or Acetyl-L-Carnitine. The study I mentioned earlier tested PLC and Viagra. I do recall a seperate study involving post surgical patients which tested a combination therapy of PLC and Acetyl-L-Carnitine. I don't have the particulars of either study in front of me, but both involved taking the Carnitine for an extended period of time. In an earlier post I gave the website for the PLC/Viagra study.

In an earlier post, I mentioned a study involving surgical patients and carnitine. The study was published in the November 2005 issue of Urology, and can be viewed at http://www.goldjournal.net. ALC plus PLC was found to increase the efficacy of Sildenafil in the treatment of ED following prostate surgery.

DadBlair,
Thanks for correcting my misunderstanding with PLC & L-Carnitine. I went back and re-read your post and the links you provided. Good information to know; should be helpful to the rest of the guys here. You got my attention.
I’ve been using Levitra for a number of years and don’t like the erections it provides; only shaft firmness. No CS or Glans involvement and numbing. Even while using L-Carnitine the erections from Levitra are disappointing. I got the same results from injections (caverject/bimix).
Last month I tried Viagra and Cialis for the first time and both provided erections that were significantly better than Levitra or injections. I was very pleasantly surprised how my penis responded. Much fuller, better engorgement, my CS and Glans were completely involved and the inner ‘tinglies’ that I remember so well were back and lasted the entire duration of the medication.
Perhaps the L-Carnitine had some effect on the Viagra and Cialis? Now you got me thinking…….I may try to wean myself off the L-Carnitine for a month or so just to see how my body responds to Viagra and Cialis without it.
Thanks for your input here, I appreciate the education.

Dave,
I hope the info was useful. As far as an education, I have been getting one on this website. Best thing I have encountered to date. I am really beginning to have hope. I now intend to combine Alfusosin which the doctor prescribed for my BPH with Cialis. I came across this idea in a discussion regarding Alpha Blockers which I will now try to find again. Maybe we'll meet in the chatroom. I was there for a few minutes the other day.

DadBlair, It sounds like you know more about the med/supplement combinations than I do, and there are others here who can speak more intelligently to that. In any case, we're glad your here to compare notes with the rest of us!
