Re: Implant is done (one year anniversary 04/29/16)
One year ago today I had my implant with Dr. Kramer in Baltimore. The riots were going on and while we felt safe where we were staying in the harbor and while at the hospital the usual what could go wrong in surgery thoughts were compounded by the anxiety around what was going on in the city. Why was I there? I could get an erection with injections they just lasted too long or went away too soon depending on the day and injection amount. They required me carrying around syringes and medication on trips if we wanted to have intercourse on vacation. And they were anything but spontaneous. But what if the implant didn't work or got infected and had to be removed then no erections at all? I had seen those stories and knew they were not one in a million. In fact 1-2 per 100. I had already shown I could get just about every rare side effect from the pills why wouldn't I be one of the failures. Was I ready to deal with that?
Fast forward to a year later. I have a penis that is erect when I want. No loss of size (but no gain either so don't have an implant expecting size increase). My wife is happy with the results although it is hard enough to pump that she is not able to consistently pump me up like I had hoped. Not hard for me to pump as I know it isn't hurting me and know how to squeeze so that the pump doesn't go rocketing out of my grip like it does for her occasionally. Freaks her out and makes me laugh so all is not bad. And neither of us worries about how long the erection will last and can just concentrate on us being together. (Unless of course the dogs are whimpering outside the bedroom door, or the doorbell is ringing etc etc. but even with that my erection continues to hang out ready to go). It is just a non issue.
Reading through the posts before and now after my implant I have seen a great deal of emotional baggage being carried around as a result of ED or blamed on ED. Given the absolute fact that an implant will not fix major relationship issues those should really be fixed before attempting an implant and unfortunately guys are not big psych counseling users so at least from my observations here can show up at the dysfunctional relationship with their brand new man of steel implant and wonder why things are not going great. Or worse still go through an implant, it doesn't work well and are surrounded by a relationship that doesn't support them irregardless of the ability to get a stiff penis. My wife understood an implant might be the end of penetrative sex forever if it didn't work. She made it clear that what we had was enough as defective as it was because penetrative sex wasn't the reason we got married or stayed married through all the trials we went through over 30 years. She hoped for my sake it did work because it bothered me that I couldn't stay hard but like most women was honestly not as amazed at my larger than average wonderfully talented penis as I was even when we first got married and actually liked the foreplay massages and cuddling after more than the actual intercourse part. In fact now that I am older realize all the women I have been with except one or two liked me for more than my amazing penis. I honestly think all potential implantees should have at least one visit to a psychologist. Successes would be recognized sooner and failures would be dealt with less mental anguish if the mental baggage and relationship issues were recognized as separate from a hard penis. Even Dr. Kramer doesn't cure emotional issues with a scalpel.
OK I will get off my doctor soapbox. I love my amazing man of steel penis. I was one of the lucky ones that increased my odds of success and luck by going to a high volume sub specialist in implants namely Dr. Kramer. Good results happen with other high and low volume doctors for sure but studies seem to suggest that the more you do the better you get like everything else in life. Save the money and take a trip to get to Dr. Kramer or one of the other high volume surgeons. There is still no guarantee but your chance of being a success will be greater. Thanks Dr Kramer for your answering my questions before and after surgery and what I consider an unequivocal success. It has been a great year.

Re: Implant is done (one year anniversary 04/29/16)
Have been reading your post and great to read about all the success with Dr. Kramer. After my surgery he has become like a family member. Going back May 5th to have the inflate and deflate put on video so I can post on YouTube and other locations to help others. The videos of his surgeries really helped me take this step and I asked him to teach us all about little "Quirks" that we may have to overcome with the pump. Remember, we have only dealt with the pump a little while he has years of experience and he can explain to us what to do if this or that happens. I thought my release button didn't return to normal and he explained what to do. Things like this will help all of us.
Some things I ran into during the deflate I reached out to him for guidance and he answered my questions within hours. I hope to put those topics that can help other into action on tape. I will place a link on "My Journey" that is on Franktalk. I will update for a year and than cease writing for a period and give update or answer questions when asked.
My implant has helped my mental state as it was over 10 years since I functioned normally. The implant has been a blessing and the trip to have it finally done taught me a lot. All men need to read as much as possible and then select a HIGH VOLUME doctor. I did and felt I was selecting the best in Dr. Kramer.
Good luck in the future

Implanted March 2nd by Dr. Kramer with AMS/LGX. Had a problem lower left (scar tissue) and he placed a larger (thicker) implant as you can here on the YouTube video. Got all back, ED over 10 years before Implant.

Dr. Kramer is really great. I remain in touch with him 8 years after my procedure and he's just as responsive now as he was at the outset. If I have any further urological issues I will definitely see him.

As you both have stated he is a genuinely thoughtful as well as talented physician who has answered some of my other urologic questions as well. I hate to go overboard as it starts to sound unreal but as my ICU nurse wife said after our first meeting, he is a great guy! You picked a good one Bill. She was a bit skeptical of me getting surgery 450 miles away rather than at one of our mega tertiary centers near home. Neither she nor my local urologist have anything but accolades for my choice.

I was ready to travel 900 miles as soon as possible for him to do my replacement implant after conversing with him. Quick response and said all the correct words but he is not a United Healthcare provider. Talking to a U of MMC financial department person, they may never be. Bottom line is they get more $$ when you have to pay part of the bill too.
LGX 21cm .Milam 01/13/16. Horror; both service and surgical outcome. hated infrapubic installation. Kramer revision 03/01/17. 22cm Titan +1.5cm extender. Those who think their opinion is the only one that matters are a danger to themselves and others.

Re: Implant is done (one year anniversary 04/29/16)
I celebrate your anniversary.
When I was trying to make a decision on having and IPP I followed your posts and joined the Bionic Brotherhood in August.
I am one of the lucky ones too. Had a good surgeon, good operation and excellent results. Wish I had done it earlier, but glad I had it done.
Am agreeing with you on the baggage that we carry around with ED. An IPP does not make a bad relationship a good one.
As for as improving a relationship, I would recommend Joan Price's book........."Naked at Our Age: Talking Out Loud About Senior Sex"
Some of the chapters are....
The Old Ways Don't Do It Anymore
Reviving Desire
Surviving Divorce, Breakup, Betrayal
When Sex Hurts: Vulvar/Vaginal Pain
When Your Partner has Alzheimer's
Reclaiming Sex after Cancer
Better Now Than Ever: the Joys of Older-Age Sex
Her website is http://joanprice.com/about.htm Available at Amazon on books and audio.

Thanks for the information on books that can help. We can probably all use that help. 34 years of marriage and I am still learning.
