Insurance & Implants

Postby NE_Bob » Fri Jul 22, 2011 11:46 am

Just wanted to let the community know...I have scheduled my surgery with Dr. Eid in NYC for Oct 5th. He recommended the coloplast titan for someone my age. (44) he says it is a better implant and listed numerous reasons why it would be better in my situation. He does not like the LGX and says he replaces them all the time using the titan and the AMS CX.
Only now they tell me my insurance (United Health-care) will cover the procedure but not the device itself. The policy for prosthetic devices only covers "external" devices and specifically excludes devices implanted internally in the body...(except for breast implant after mascectomy). This would leave me with 7-8K out of pocket cost-ouch. May still go through with it if I can find the cash. Just thought I would let you all know some of the pitfalls of the health insurance policies...

I have United Health care and i was implanted with a Coloplast Titan implant. They paid 100% of the cost. I paid nothing because I had already met my copay maximum for the year. I used Dr. Milam at Vanderbilt.

Well...as I sad at other post, if you are considering a AMS CX, you should talk to your doctor about discomfort...sometimes I regret have done it (but only because I feel so uncomfortable).
