Help me find a doctor. Found One !!!!

Postby tukusmax » Wed Aug 17, 2011 2:11 am

I haven’t paid much attention to the recommended doctors posts, on here, as I have been approved by the VA Little Rock. I figured they would be assigning the doctor for surgery. Last week they said surgery would be mid-September with a date set a week or so prior to the procedure. Today I find that the date has been bumped back to 10-8-11 at the earliest. What I didn’t know was that patients that have had cancer surgery have priority over me for the surgery. So my date can be changed to a future date, indefinitely. The VA suggested that because of the high volume of surgeries and the few doctors to handle them, that I should request my surgery be outsourced to a non-VA hospital and doctor, at their expense.

So now I may be in a position to select my own doctor and facility and I know no one!

I live in east/central Oklahoma and looking for recommended doctors. Little Rock is approx. 270 miles away. I would like to keep within about 300 mile radius. Any recommended doctor in this area could be suggested. Some of the locations within this area would: Tulsa, Ok, and Oklahoma City, Ok. Going north anything in Kansas? Or north/east to Joplin, and Springfield Mo. Now on to AR. There is Little Rock, Ft Smith, Springdale. Now it’s on to big T, Dallas, Ft Worth, Irvine, you know those basic areas.

I know that some of you must know a doctor in this area. Please help to point me in a direction to start this my research.

Thanks y’all,

Tukusmax

don't know miles but it must be close to your limit, Dr. Gerald Henry Sheveport LA. Erectile dysfunction specialist and he is one of the "go to" guys for implants. Kubota, a freind of Antelope and I went to him and was happy with the results. Me, I went to Houston about 400 miles from the house and I would rather go a few more miles to get somebody that is may have more experience. But I can't say that my traveling further was necessary but it make me comfortable to go where i was comfortable.

Thanks for the suggestion, I did some google and found that Dr. Henry is about 12 miles closer than Little Rock. I never would have thought about looking in LA. I am meeting with my VA PC Dr. tomarrow to submitt the outsorce request, we'll see how that goes.

Thanks!

My AMS implant was done by Dr. Joshua Fine, Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. I don't quite know how this would work out with your VA requirements. Medicare covered my procedure. Good results now about a year after implant. I'll answer questions you may have. Best wishes.

News alert! I got a call from Little Rock VA this morning (my first ever) and was told that surgery is PENCILED in for Oct. 4th. (my wife's birthday!) with pre-op a week or two prior to that date. She did make it clear the date is "subject to change". This is the first time a specific date has been mentioned, so maybe the squeaky wheel does catch the bird, which is better than two in the bush, covered with grease (or some thing like that). I am still going to pursue the outsourcing with PC Dr. but he doesn't have an appt. 'til Aug. 30. We'll see how this all plays out.

PS: To all the guys on the chat room last night, I'm sorry that I frightened y'all. I was typing a response and hit the wrong key and it sent me to my home page, by the time I got back to the chat room, I was the only one there! It was kind'a like Twilight Zone.

When I told her, her response was to sing "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAPPY BIRTDAY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!!!" if the people in her office, at the church where she works (and we attend) only knew why she was singing-----------------------!

I have also talked to a few guys that had implants done by Dr Gerard Henry and they were extremely pleased with the outcome. I believe he had a journal published last year describing he has a new length measuring technique that he measures the corporas to get the longest possible implant in to fit your anatomy. I usually see him a couple times a year to ask questions about implants, and he knows his stuff.
