Autoinjector use for heavy-set guys

Hi all,

I am about to begin injection therapy (Bimix PGE1+ Phentolamine) after nerve-sparing robotic prostate removal about a year ago. Have been on Viagra 3 times a week (60mg ramping up to 100mg) since about a month after surgery for penile rehab, but have had no real success in restoring my erections.

My question is for men out there with a "paunch". I can just barely see my penis, and I am not that big down there. So I am concerned about being able to hold the syringe and see the optimal injection site and be able to inject at the proper angle.

I asked my urologist (this is all prior to my first injection at his office) about auto-injectors, but it seems to me that being able to hold the larger assembly of the auto-injector - and being able to place it into position before injection – that I will have better success at proper injection. My urologist has said that auto-injectors are primarily for men with anxiety about the injection itself. I don't think I have that anxiety (although I haven’t actually tried it yet) – my concern is being able to (a) adequately see the proper injection site and (b) insert the syringe at the proper angle and location.

Additionally, my wife is completely needle-phobic – even on herself. And when my doctor suggested injection therapy, she nearly passed out. If I have any chance of including her in the injection routine, I'm thinking that she MIGHT be able to handle an auto-injector – or at least be able to watch me do it without cringing – not a great way to begin a lovemaking session, I'm sure.

So I'm wondering if there are any guys out there with limited view of their penis due to a large belly that can share their experience with manual injection and/or use of an auto-injector?

Some tips to try:

-- Stand in front of a large mirror in your bedroom or bathroom. That might give you enough visibility without having to pull your stomach in.
-- Try a sitting position, perhaps on the toilet to see if that adds to the visibility.
-- Manually inject using a "feel" method. Pull the penis to one side of your thigh and inject along the side about halfway up. Practice until you have success. The worst that can happen is that you'll have some misses until you figure it out.

I started out using an auto injector and you can certainly use that. Then I found I could be precise injecting manually. With your larger waistline you'll just have to experiment to find something that works.

I had my first injection at the uro's office. He did the injection. I talked to him about having a little more control with an autoinjector based on the limited view I had. He thought I had a good point.

I thought about doing the injection in front of a mirror, but being backwards kinda worried me.

My first injection was 60-70% successful in terms of an erection - time was pretty good, about an hour. Dosage: 20 units (.2ml). A TINY bit of a dull ache - I've had similar aches in the past when my erection was super-hard...just under that pain/pleasure threshold, so it was OK.

I'm going to try 30 units this weekend, injecting on my own. I figure I'll try a manual injection first, just to know what the "feel" is. But I also got the Autoject EI and will try that when I do attempt #3. Now that I've played with the Autoject, I believe that an advantage is you can place the Autoject, locate it exactly where you want it, then pull the trigger. But we'll see how the manual injection goes. Doing it in front of a mirror and on the left side instead of the right might be interesting.

I will post my results of the second attempt as well, as this Bimix is a different formulation than most Bimix formulations out there (Phentolamine/PGE-1(Aprostadil) instead of Phentolamine/Papaverine).
