Infecting and HIV

Postby Nocturne » Sun Mar 05, 2017 8:27 am

This seems like a stupid question, but does injecting right before sex increase one's odds of HIV infection?
Genetically sky-high Lp(a) of 390 led to various heart diseases. Ultra-low testosterone of 120 (now 480 with Clomid) also contributed to ED at age 41. Managing with daily Cialis, but for me, the implant is a "when", not an "if".

I am not a doctor but my guess is the risk would be about the same as if you had not injected. Obviously, if you are worried about HIV transmission you should just wear a condom.
I've tried everything -- pills, injections pumps -- and now I am at the final frontier.

Suffered with ED for most of my life. Viagra then to Trimix then implanted 3/8/2018 with AMX 700 CX 21cm with 1cm RTE. 50 years old Urolift procedure performed 30 day prior to my implant surgery.

Obviously you are creating the tiniest of wounds with the needle so yes, it does increase your risk. As a man living with HIV I can tell you that even though the meds have improved tremendously, you do not want the disease. Meds are EXPENSIVE, there are side effects to the disease and the meds. That said, it is no-longer the death sentence it used to be. I am still alive almost a decade after I was supposed to die. Use protection. Please. If the condoms turn you off, use a ribbed condom turned inside out with a touch of lube near the tip. This is how I modified my use and got plenty of enjoyment. Cheers. d

Your question is a valid one. It is only a stupid question if you ask but don't want to know the answer. Many factors will also affect your risk ratio. Method of sex( anal, vaginal, oral), partners viral load, whether you are using PReP. 50¢ is cheap insurance for risk management!

YES. You have created a new site for potential infection. If you're gay, then it doesn't matter because you should be using a condom.

Actually gays, straight or bi does not make a difference. HIV has no borders. The fastest growing segment of new infections are women. If you are having sex with a person of unknown risk factors and not tested, then please use protection. If you have had sex with people of unknown status ( actually seeing their lab report, not their post DDFUB2 on a craigslist profile!) get yourself tested or buy a kit at a local pharmacy for $40. Many cities off free tests. The sooner you are diagnosed, the less chance you will have disease related issues. Wrap it before you tap it

sex without protection is very risky for everyone period. Not just hiv. And regardless of orientation.

Anyone who is have sex without a condom 100% of the time should consider going on PREP. (Truvada)
For many people, insurance pays for it. In my case insurance paid for it less a $50/month copay. But then the cashier at my pharmacy mentioned that the drug company has a coupon that covers the copay. So it’s costs me nothing. Zero. Nada. Absolutely free. Check your situation.

Truvada only protects you from HIV. It will not protect you from hepatitis, herpes, or any of the other STDs. It just protects you from HIV. There have been no cases of transmission of HIV to a person on PREP.
Continue to use a condom as you see fit, but if you are on PREP you can take HIV off the list of worries.

I really struggled to stay hard with a condom on. They squeezed my girth and I lost my erection pretty quickly which them on. Finding condoms that fit better (Magnums initially, then OneCondoms sized to fit me) really made a difference. Now using OneCondoms that fit me I can stay hard with them on. But it’s nice to have the choice to go bare and not worry about HIV.

I’m glad I’m on PREP. Consider if it’s right for you.
