I didn't feel like I could get it tight enough


Put it on so it's very snug, but not tight. Don't try to assemble when on! Set it before doing so and slide it on. When you start to inflate it will tighten up.

My gosh, that's the problem! I tried assembling it when it was on. Duh! So maybe this ring will work after all. :D

LOL YEP! The good thing is that you can snap it off when tight by pulling off one of the ends.
