About to take the plunge!

Postby NolaVette » Fri Oct 28, 2011 4:49 pm

I picked up my 20 MCG/ML vial of Alprostadil today in preparation for my first injection attempt. But first I have to pay another visit to the doc to be instructed on how to actually do it. He’s gonna shoot me up with saline for the office visit and I’ll do the real thing at home. I can’t imagine they’re gonna show me anything I haven’t already seen online already. The only thing I’m not sure about is the hardware I’ll need to get (Syringe type and size and needle size and length) I’m sure they’ll supply that info. My dose will be .5ml which is meant to be for rehab only-3 days per week. I’m kinda looking forward to it, but at the same time maybe not.

OK-just got back from my "injection lesson". I shot myself up with what I think was 2.5 ml (or was it .25 ml) of saline solution. I need to learn about CCs , milliliters and units pretty quickly I guess. The doc started throwing around these terms and numbers and I got a little confused to say the least. It didn't help that he's from India and has a pronounced accent. After reading a good bit online about injections, units seems to the preferred way to measure dosages. The actual injection part was so much easier than I thought it would be. I didn't even feel the needle going in and it was a 27 guage-1/2 incher. The doc wants me to return later today with the real stuff and we'll do it again to see how it works and then adjust the dosage accordingly.

Steve, since your doc is from India, ask him what he thinks about the meds from India that we can order from AllDayChemists. I discovered that the meds (Cialis & Levitra generics) I ordered from Canada were actually made in India. Next time you talk with him, just get his view on this, and let us know, or private message me at Littlejohn.

As it urns out, because of scheduling conflicts the doc is gonna have me do the injection with the Caverject at home. Ran out of time today and I have to travel to Jackson, MS tomorrow for work and won't be back home until late Friday night. Looks like Saturday will be the day to get it done. Doc told me to go with .5ml first and wait about an hour-if no response then do another shot of .5ml. Does this sound about right?
Littlejohn: I won't be seeing this guy again unless I happen to run into him in the hall at the clinic. His job was to do the injection lesson only. He's not my ED specialist. But I did ask the resident who was assisting my ED doc about getting pills from Canada and other countries and he said "You don't want to do that". I asked why is that? He didn't have a chance to answer because the ED guy had walked back into the exam room right at that second.

Yes, all of our doctors just about in this country say, "You don't want to do that." I ordered my Cialis and Levitra generics from Canada; they were made in India, and they work every bit as well as what I was taking of the brand names. I think our doctors and the drug companies in this country have reciprocal benefits (scratching each other's proverbial backs) that patients don't have. That's why I thought it would be interesting to ask an Indian physician that question. I plan to ask some of the Indian people I know what they think, too.
