First visit with ED specialist

I had my first office visit with my ED specialist this morning. After I told him I had tried 2 (100 mg) Viagra pills a few weeks ago, which had no effect, he said he recommended alternating injection therapy and Levitra to get blood moving into the area to prevent atrophy of erectile tissue. He told me these injections were only meant for penile rehab and not necessarily for intercouse, but I could use a pump for that if I wanted. I’m scheduled to go back in a week to be instructed on how to do the injections. But, when I returned home I saw that I had received in the mail the Viagra pills that I had ordered from Northwest Pharmacy. So, I figured I’d give the Viagra one more shot. Lo and behold!—About an hour later I get something I haven’t had in 2 months. An erection! It wasn’t quite usable, but I’d say it was a good 50%. I’m thinking I’d like to postpone the injection and Levitra therapy to see if the Viagra continues to work. After all, it is getting blood to right spot. Any thought or suggestions?

Nolavette: Get the injections stuff. I bet you will find that it will move you up to the next level. Many guys have reported that once the injections got started there was some awakening of the nerves. Its worth a shot (pun intended).. Sounds great that the blue pill got you started.

Hey NOLA,

Trimix (injections) got the systems up and running again for me to the point where a small dose (5mG levitra) is 100%. I'm now getting more no drug successes than I thought possible.

I use Trimix for erections and I too can report improved erection quality on non Trimix days with a lower dose of Viagra. Uro said the induced erection forces oxygenated blood into damaged tissue and helps to revive the tissue.

Also. I get much better results with Viagra when my stomach is empty. Mornings, before eating breakfast, works best for me. Perhaps Lavitra works the same way.

I am just wondering if anybody has any suggestions on how to find a good ED doctor? Do people see GP's separate from their psychiatrists?
I had a doctor for seven years of my ed. Things didn't turn out well with him, and he hasn't been my doctor since 1991. I liked some things about him.
But I don't think he knew much about ED's, and he used to scold me and yell at me and bully me and intimidate me a lot. Made me feel like a naughty child,
instead of an adult doing the best she could with a difficult illness. I think it was the best he knew to do, but don't want to be subjected to that kind of
treatment if I go see another doctor.
Any info on how people deal with their docs, choose them, what kind they see (shrink, GP, specialist etc) would be greatly appreciated.
Also how do your docs treat you guys? Do they yell, scold, threaten? Do any of them treat you with respect and like adults with an illness?

I would suggest you see a Urologist. They specialize in ED problems
along with all of the other things. Usually a medical group of Urologist
can handle anything and everything from prostate cancer to bladder
to Low T to all levels of ED.

I would never deal with any doctor who bullys me or even trys.
Your problems are real to you and any doctor worth a grain of salt
should treat them as such.

I have never experienced any bullying from a doctor. That is completely unprofessional. I don't know how old you are, but, regardless of your age, you need a doctor such as a general practioner or family doctor. Usually insurance companies require that you have a referral to a urologist from your family or personal physician. If you don't have one, maybe you could just look up urologists under physicians in the yellow pages and contact the office to see what you need to do in order to make an appointment with one. If you live in a rural area that doesn't have urologists, do a Google search for urologists in your geographic area.

IMHO you need two doctors. ED can be a result of an underlying physical problem that could be serious. I would start with a good GP or internist for a complete physical. Second I would see a urologist that specializes in ED. If the urologist has a web site, make sure he lists ED as a specialty. If there is a medical school near you, check the urology staff there.

In my case, seeing a GP about ED did lead to a diagnosis of other conditions. However, when it came to being helpful with ED, I have found my GP pretty useless, apart from a willingness to prescribe viagra, cialis, levitra. Take your time and read through the discussion forums here on all the areas, and if you do you will know far more than you will get from your average GP. This will also arm you with get questions for your urologist.
