Sleep Apnea and ED!

Postby newtoed » Sun Jan 18, 2015 1:44 am

Hi Everyone,
A little over a year after my rectal cancer surgery finally I returned to work. As a dentist I looked into treating patients of sleep apnea with a mouthpiece that opens up the airways while we sleep. I suspected for a long time that I myself have sleep apnea, but one night my wife witnessed me violently gasping for air and now I'm sure. I used to wake up tired, depressed and with a sore body. Now after I made myself a mouthpiece I really enjoy sleeping and wake up refreshed and no soreness at all. And guess what! I have lot more nightly full erections and even my ED seems to improve.

According to the medical literature the stress and hypoxia caused by sleep apnea leads to high blood pressure, strokes, diabetes and ED. Those of you who snore, overweight, have high blood pressure and not getting a good relaxing sleep should look into this and talk to your doctor or dentist.

It made a huge difference for me. My ED is still there partially, but with a pill I get great erections now which I could not before. But at least I have lot more energy, better mood and my 20 plus year old backache is copletely gone.

Good luck!

good point!

I am getting one of those dental appliances in a month..hopefully it will help. Sleep apnea is apparently a way bigger deal than one would think. and those damned cpap machines are the work of the devil.

Do you have to have a dentist or doctor make you these mouthpieces or is it something you can make for yourself? Is there a link you could share that describes these mouthpieces? Thanks.

Yes, sleep apnea is very dangerous. Imagine some people stop breathing dozens of times an hour. Not just that their body and brains don't get enough oxygen, but they cannot rest and regenerate. The most natural thing should be that we wake up rested, relaxed and in a good mood, ready for the day. If that's not the case that is not normal.

If you suspect you have sleep apnea ask your doctor to order a sleep test. You can do one in a sleep clinic or they can deliver a simple to your home. Your insurance covers this. If you have sleep apnea, you have 3 choices: a compressor that pumps air into your longs through a mast (cpap), a mouthpiece that pulls your jaw and toungue forward opening up the airways or surgery which is the last resort.
Most people don't like the mask. Your dentist can make you the mouthpiece and the medical insurance or Medicate covers this too, because the insurance company doesn't want you to have a heart attack or a stroke, costing them much more. Without insurance this will cost you a few hundred dollars.

I'm getting a mouthpiece done myself. Im bearing a temporary now and it is a miracle what it does. Regarding our ED every night I have 100% hard erections. I would lie if I said that my ED is gone. But with a pill its almost perfect and that wasn't so before. I have 10 times more energy and greater mood too which also help in the relationship and sex indirectly.
If you suspect you have this condition look into it.

I took the route of a c-pap machine about 7 years ago, should have done it sooner. I get 7 hours on average un bothere4d snooze time. But ED is still my worst enemy!! I'll ask my dentist this month about these devices, might be better for me.

I realize that this post has some age, but I would like to comment. I have been on BP meds for 15 years which created ED. 14 years ago I was diagnosed with PC and went the surgery path to have the organ removed. ED is a problem still. I have been using a CPAP machine for a few months because of sleep apnea. I do believe that the improved sleep is helping the ED problem. Erections are improved and at 65 years of age I am experiencing occasional morning wood, something I have not experienced in years. It's not like being 20 but I am amazed. This info might fall under the "for what it's worth" file.
