Another new guy

Hi everyone.

I live in Australia and was diagnosed with PCa early in 2009, with radical prostate removal in July 09 followed by radiation in December 09 and January 10 following. I'm now on 6 monthly PSA tests, currently running at 0.13.....not good I know, but not too bad either. I am 65 years old.

Anyway I was lucky, with no incontinence, but unlucky with total impotence that was indifferent to Trimix, viagara, etc etc., and opted for an implant on 30 June 2010.

I saw my surgeon urologist yesterday and he is happy with the procedure, my only problem has been that the radio has scarred my lower abdomen extensively and the wound in my scrotum is only now slowly closing. The device itself, however an AMS 700, works perfectly....better than the original if anything. Natch I cannot have sex until the wound has totally healed.

This is my first post and I am happy to answer any questions about my implant that anyone may have.

I have to say that the radio did more damage than anyone expected to my lower abdomen, which made the implant procedure pure agony for two weeks post op, but what the hell! Simply to be a functional male again is beyond price.

Interestingly enough my urologist told me that the US manufacturers of these protheses are amazed at the poor take up of the devices here in Oz. Apparently 90% of ED men here just give up on sex post PCa. He said that I was the most motivated bloke he'd ever met in persevering through the pain etc....at one point he wanted to remove the kit due to the inflamation and lack of healing, but I insisted on packing myself with ice and antibiotics and this paid off.

Just wondering if you can explain the "Radio" damage that occurred to your abdomen. Are you speaking of radiation therapy or something else.

Thanks for sharing your information about your implant, it usually helps so many of us that have developed full blown ED due to Prostate cancer therapy procedures. I don't cherish the thought of undergoing an implant procedure, but in light of my persistent ED following robotic prostatectomy May 2009, I'm probably going to have to proceed at some point with an implant if I want to continue to enjoy sexual activities, and at 57 yrs. of age, I'm not really ready to throw in the towel.

Good luck with your continued healing, and may the final outcome for you be stronger, longer, thicker woodies to enjoy.

Hi Dallas,

I was referring to tissue scarring and deep cell damage caused by beamed radiation therapy in December 09 and January 2010. It caused all sorts of problems, including a totally blocked urethra at one point, but the worst aspect is that such damaged tissue is very slow to heal. This followed a radical prostrectomy in July 09 which was unfortunately not completely successful in returning my psa to zero.

The wound is still not completely closed, but very close to it after 6 weeks.

I have to say that my wife and I are waiting with some impatience.

Well guys,

My wife and I have given my implant its first operational testing, and I have to say we're pretty happy.

One thing troubles me, that whilst the shaft is as hard as glass, the glans is still a little soft, making pentration not as straightforward as it was. (to say the least). I have also lost some length.

My implant is the AMS 700. Is this likely to rectify itself?

If your implant is the AMS 700 LGX yes you will gain length for up to 18 months. If it is the CX probally not.

One thing about the glans. It should start to respond over the next few weeks. One thing that may help is 5mg of daily Cialis. Most urologist have a coupon for a free month's supply or you can go to http://www.cialis.com for the coupon. You do need a prescription.
