I belong to healingwell's prostate cancer forum, and I had RP surgery Jan 3rd 2012. I've had complete ED since. This morning I got my first post OP PSA, undetectable, and also got my first injection. My uro injected me with PGE1. I got a great erection and it lasted for 2 hours before subsiding but I also had this very disabling ache in my penis. I could not get comfortable and it was a real pain to put my pants on in the DR.s office. I've been streching junior out three or four times/week with a VED and the pain continued even when junior started to subside. I believe the pain is from the shot of PGE1. My uro said he will use trimix next time because of it. Have any of you heard of this or experienced this?
Thanks
Rod

From what I understand, the ache is a side-effect that some guys have from caverject alone. I think you will like the tri-mix

Re: First injection this morning and it didn't go well
Hi guys,
everything I have read confirms that if it's going to hurt, PGE-1 (Prostaglandin E1) also called Alprostadil (Caverject and also Edex) will be the one to do it. Bi-mix doesn't use it and Tri-mix uses very little.
Tomorrow at 4PM I get my first injection of PGE-1. We'll see/feel if it's true. Been waiting 10 years for tomorrow (didn't really need it before now). Hope all goes well, and I know that you guys are rooting for me just like you root for every newbie...Tom..

My uro put me on a trimix compound from the beginning. He said he does that to avoid the side effects of PGE-1 used alone, as in Caverject and Edex.

Hi Desertrat1,
Don't be surprised if Trimix causes pain also, although it won't be as severe depending on the proportion of prostaglandin used in the Trimix formula you're prescribed. I tried Prostaglandin alone (much pain) then Trimix (not as much pain but still not acceptable) then finally Bimix (no pain). I'm using .08 ml (8 units) with good results.
Sounds like you'll probably end up with Bimix.

Re: First injection this morning and it didn't go well
20 units of PGE-1 yesterday and had 70% for about an hour. First woody in 15 years.. No pain to speak of and it was gone by the time I got home. (Honey was pissed). will increase 5 units next time. PA also stated that in general skip a day between injections but occasionally, for long weekends, once a day. (PGE-1). Don't know if thats true for tri-mix. Anyway, we are off to the races with PGE-1...Tom..
