Thanks a lot

This is why I chose Clavell as well. March 22 is when I scheduled the procedure. looking forward to it!

I'll be implanted by Clavell next week. I had a short list of docs to interview after seeing my Kaiser doc, I called Karpman's office, whom is only an hour from my home, and was treated poorly, I then called Clavell's office and didn't call any others after him.

Best of luck to you (and me)

What problem did you have at Karpman's office?

I agree that the front office sucks because it serves all of the docs in the El Camino Urology Group not just Karpman, who has other staff (not out front) that just serves him & his patients.

There were a few office mixups & comms issues but nothing that would have made me fly across country to get it done by another doc.

I have no complaints (22 days post op) yet about the infrapubic implant that he did on me which I've reported extensively about in my thread on the topic here:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=21069

And I'd recommend him to anyone else who is considering an infrapubic vs penoscrotal implant.

I knew you'd respond defending Karpman. I don't have anything personal against him, but I'm not going to fight through his front office to get to him.

1)they didn't know even the most basic of answers to my questions.

2) they seemed evasive when I asked a question they MUST have know the answer to (how much time should I schedule for my consultation? Does Dr. Karpman require additional testing prior to an appointment?) They didn't know, but did say there would probably be about $400 in lab costs before I was even able to meet with him.

3) I asked when the next appointment was available, I was put on hold for 10 minutes and when they came back asked me why I was on hold.

4)overall, I felt as if I was a burden to them.

5)I had to call 3 times during business hours to get someone to answer.

Karpman is clearly a well respected surgeon and may be extremely talented, but my experience coupled with many reviews on Yelp regarding his bedside manner as being a bit stuck up, painted a picture for me that informed my decision. So much so, that I WILL pay to fly to TX, put myself in a hotel and fly back after meeting with Dr. Clavell on a video appointment within days of contacting his very helpful staff. Dr. Clavell mentioned he has done surgery with Karpman and had nothing bad to report, again, I'm sure he's a fine surgeon.

You can now say it must have been a bad day, or this was not your experience. Good for you, THIS WAS MINE. This is not a surgeon pissing match, or an IP or PS pissing match, but you seem to always make it into that. BE HAPPY THAT YOU GOT JUST WHAT YOU WANTED, and understand that's not everybody's choice for a myriad of reasons.

Indeed, good to see you moving forward with Clavell.

Does anyone know if Clavell utilizes a drain immediately post op?
Titan OTR. Dr. Hakky - successful surgery and very happy with outcome.

I'm sorry for your unsatisfactory experience.

I am happy about the result so far.

I understand that. I was just trying to understand where you were coming from.

As I said, I think Karpman's front office is imperfect but I haven't found it as objectionable as you did.

As for Karpman, I never found him "stuck up." He's listened to/answered all of my questions to my satisfaction and AFIK performed the surgery well.

I hope your experience with Dr. Clavell goes well and meets your expectations.

Good luck!

I did mine with Hakky Dec 13, 2022 and got in early because of a cancellation. I could not be more pleased. He talks with you with man to man talk like in a bar and he doesn't sugar coat anything. He was able to upsize me and now I'm getting my Testosterone replacement meds from him. You would be happy with him

I have been treated by both Clavell and Hakky and while I haven’t been implanted yet, I have dealt with both at an advanced patient-dr level.
Both are professionals with a passion for our issue and while covering the subjects of Peyronies and ED in professional terms, they both are very down to earth and exercise plain speak.
I found both understood my want to wait to be implanted and explained the pros and cons of Trimix (hence my Peronies lol), My journey started 3 years ago.. As talk recently turned to implants both explained everything thoroughly. I did find Clavell to be more prone to giving options like brand of device and IP or PS and letting me decide, whereas, Hakky gave me his opinion on devices and approach while explaining why and offered me final say but was more direct in suggesting what direction he preferred to move forward.
Both were quick to cover awkward topics like size preservation, ved use, sex after implantation etc that some may feel awkward talking about. They both use no touch and explain their attention to infection mitigation.

A major point of consideration for me is insurance coverage and help. I have a BCBS plan that in the plan paperwork says it will cover implantation for ED and Peyronies but of course you have to fight a bit, I felt Clavell’s office was directing me towards self pay, whereas, Hakky’s office immediately went to work helping me secure insurance coverage. They said my plan is top notch and they had experience with helping to get coverage. (BCBS FEP Basic)

Final outcome: I originally saw Clavell because I lived outside of Houston and his reputation here. About a year ago I move to TN about 3 hours from Hakky. I have tons of air and hotel miles so those expenses weren't a problem for me, in the end I chose Hakky because he's closer. At the end of the day both are fantastic doctors and I believe from experience, you are comparing apples to apples. Either way you will win.

This is a great reply from someone whom has dealt with both doctors. Good post, Anthony. Have you had the implant done? How is it? Your signature isn't clear on your current status.
