New Member - Loss of Sensation

I am a new member to FrankTalk. I have experienced a loss of pleasure sensation following treatment for in 2016 prostate cancer (androgen, external radiation, brachytherapy) and subsequent treatment in 2020 for radiation scarring (urethroplasty). I have also had an implant. Multiple urologists have told me that the cause is multifactorial - the original disease and all the treatments cumulatively - and that there is no remedy for this condition. Seeking thoughts and guidance from others who may have experienced this situation: how to navigate this loss? how to manage the deep feeling of deprivation?

It sounds like you've had a tough go of it. I had an RP 13 years ago and radiation recently but I haven't had to deal with the hormone treatment, at least not yet. With your history having the cause diagnosed as multifactorial isn't surprising to me. I certainly have reduced sensation due to nerve damage but I wouldn't call it loss of pleasure sensation exactly. I assume you're not just talking about reduced sensitivity in your dick. Is this something that presented soon after your original treatement? Are you married or have a sexual partner?

This is a complete loss of pleasure sensation (not pain, though, as surgeon explained, pain nerves are more important -protective-than pleasure nerves). This presented after recovery from urethroplasty, but before implant (which I had misguided belief might help restore some sensation). I am married (42 years) and this has had a significant complication to that relationship, which we are also now trying to navigate.

Take it from me, one who works in the medical field in the field of pain management, nerves take many years to recover from trauma. You may find that your pleasure sensations begin to return and bud new sensory nodules as time goes by. For example, sometimes after spinal surgery, the nerves may take up to three years or more before they begin to reconnect with sensation in some areas. The nerves for pleasure in the penis run very close to the skin so I am hopeful for you that in the years to come your pleasure will return. Try to be patient but reassure yourself that they will return. You may even find heightened sensation in some areas of your penis that are new to you. Please don't give up hope. I have seen nerves regenerate themselves. I think yours can too.

Just something in trying to understand from people with the Psycological effect of sexual dysfunction.

Ok, I'll opine:

It depends on the woman. The varity is bewildering. Some can't seem to get over no longer being the cause of the erection. Of course they still are, they're why we're injecting, or whatever ED solution is being used. Some women are just very shallow being brought up to be a spoiled princess. They get upset if things don't work the way they think they should in their perfect dreams. It may be all about them and they don't want to make any comprimises as life changes things. They just want things the way they want them and have no patience. Choose your mate wisely.

Fortunately many women are kind, wise and love their man. They will be patient and try to make things work to bring pleasure to both parties in the relationship.
