Economics of an Implant

Think about this for a second. If I could guarantee sterility, how much would I have to pay you to let me slice open your sac and stick a 3/4 inch rubber ball in it? Would you do it for $1000? No way! Would you do it for $10,000? No way! Would you do it for $1,000,000? Sure! Sign me up! How about $50,000? Mmm. Maybe.... OK, Let's say $50,000 for the pain and suffering and side effects...
How much is the surgery for an implant? Let's say $20,000.

I'm 58. How many times will I use the thing from now until age 78? 1 time per week? If I am lucky. 1 time per month? Let's say once every 2 weeks or 25 times a year. Over 20 years that is 500 times. So, assuming i have a willing partner from now until age 78. I am paying 50000/500 or $100 per event for pain and suffering and $40 per event for the installation. Total $140 per romp!

I can orgasm now without an erection and it feels quite nice. At $140 per romp I can buy a new dildo for her every time for 1/3 the price and still be far ahead.

I'm married 36 years to a wife my age. I'm pretty sure I will never be a porn star. i can orgasm now. And my tongue still works.
So tell me again, why I am seeing the ED implant doc on Monday?

I think you're going to be surprised at the frequency of use once you have "erections on demand". As someone on this site has wisely said, it's like being 19 again without the stupid. Most of us here are well versed is utilizing all of the alternatives you mentioned. However, whether you're by yourself or with someone, I think you're going to find that there's nothing so sensual as a raging hard-on.

So, IMHO, it's the latter--just a case of nerves. Your concerns are legitimate of course, but please don't skip your appointment. Get all the info you can and then make your decision when you're ready. And then be happy with whatever you decide. You know you have all of our support no matter what.

Jeff, I will not pay out of pocket for an implant. Just me im too cheap. If insurance would pay I would be in line for the new toy for sure.

It's like we talked about, think about factoring in every time you pee, you pull out jr. and have to see him in that way,sadly now just a drain tube (with some feeling!). So, you just counted the number of times you will have or might like to have intercourse. Add in the number of times you might pee till age 78 that you will have to look at the poor little guy. 20x365x~6=43800 times you have see him that way,what could that be worth. $0.01 each time, nah, maybe $1.00 nah, too much. maybe $0.25, heck that would be $10,950. Plus there is undeniable entertrainment value everytime you blow the thing up and see it take on a life of it's own. Priceless.

I am "pumped" for my meeting with the doc tomorrow!

You're right. I'd easily pay 50 cents to see a little more meat twixt my thighs whenever I peed. It's bit like driving a Corvette. Even though you'll never take it to 180 mph, it is nice to know it can.

Worried Guy. Well I'm a bit late with my post. From an economic point of view, you made very common sense. Are you an accountant? But when it comes to a sex life, a hard penis and being able to satisfy a partner ... I went from a depressed, worried, under-stimulated guy to an all-out horn doggy after getting my wonderful new gift. Isn't that a bit PRICELESS? Thanks for your help and encouragement.
Yesterday, I had my first consult with the ED specialist for University Urology. I used the list of questions from Scot K and modified them to better match my case. I also measured my size beforehand, both flaccid and erect with VED, and the Doc asked for a copy of my numbers. I was ready.
The Doc is well versed in the procedure and has done somewhere in the order of 700 of these. The most in NYS. He uses the AMS 700 LGX as recommended by you guys and my online research. Every person is different and the approach must be modified for each.1) I am not a big guy. 2) Perfect BMI - not much body fat. 3) I have a mesh across my abdomen due to two large indirect hernias 4) I have a sling. 5) Had a large prostate and quite bit of material had to be removed. So....
He will do a separate cut and go in pubicly to install the reservoir. He says I will feel the bulb most of the time. I will ask the guys about it.
Before I can do this I must do three things:
1) Try Muse at 1000 ug and try Muse with 1000ug and Cialis at 20 mg. That will show i have tried everything.
2) Meet with the AMS rep in the office. Then they will schedule surgery.
3) Continue to use the VED daily.

I am not rushing into this. I'll do it when I am ready and do not have such a busy workload. If it happens early next year and I need to pay a copay, so be it. I figure I'll be heating my house with a different kind of wood.
